I am a believer that AHL point totals also don't really dictate if a player will make it or not though. Foremost, I am in full agreement with you that you want to see annual improvement for a player on the scoresheet like we've seen with Sampo Ranta in his three years progressively getting better or the Canucks has had with Kole Lind at eliteprospects.com . However, there is no doubt in my mind that Bowers will be better if he was at Jost's role in the NHL than all the countless amount of freebies that Tyson has been able to get from the FO and coaching staff. He's simply in the NHL because of his draft position alone and nothing else. Shane might not be as productive right now, but that's due to his young age compared to anything else (and I am not a huge Bowers fan). I keep going back to my Shattenkirk example showing that you don't need to be on the scoresheet to earn a call up and then set a game point streak for a rookie defender. Again, I don't think Bowers has done anything to be worthy of a call up, but I also don't think it's because he's a bust...he's still one of the youngest players on the Eagle/AHL trying to understand the toughest position in hockey (even if he might be on the wing currently).
Oh I don't think production is the end all, be all... just that if there is none or low, it is a bad sign. You won't find many forwards who have produced at a .3-.4 or lower in the AHL and have a career in the NHL that is beyond a 4th liner. There has to be some level of skill and finish to even make the NHL today. Years ago he could have punched faces to make it... we don't really have those types any more. This year is a small sample and he's played better than 2 in 12 would suggest... but if there isn't some level of production, it is concerning. Small samples though and that can easily shift with a good few games.

Defensemen don't equate to forwards, but more than that small samples create more outliers. If Shatty would have played the full season in the AHL, he would have produced. That said, you're right and there are ways to earn callups beyond points (actually would say points are pretty low on the list).

I'm in no way saying Bowers is a bust or that it is over or that he should or will never play in the NHL... just that he needs to be better. He can play better down there and needs to so he can get a shot.

Jost has gotten preferential treatment that many wouldn't get, but his biggest advantage was being a marketing tool at the end of a horrendous season.. then cast as part of the solution. On bad teams, more fringe players can establish and build trust. As teams get better, it becomes harder to break into the lineup. If Jost was coming up today, he probably wouldn't play a few games at the end of the season and wouldn't break camp. Fair or not, making a good team is more difficult than making a bad team.

I'd much rather see what Bowers can do as opposed to watching Jayson Megna try and enter the zone skating backwards ever again.

I get that it feels like his development has stalled but watching this bottom six continue to do little of consequence and then adding insult to injury by throwing guys you know won't do jack shit out there, it's just frustrating to watch. I get that Bowers isn't exactly pounding at the door but that doesn't mean he has no business in the NHL.

There isn’t anything left for him. That’s the point.
Well there’s plenty. But if they’re using him on the fourth line it’s not like he’s going to learn it. If they’re devoted to him to him being a two way winger it’s just as well to bring him up to the taxi squad and bring him in when injuries come. If they want him to grow some offensive polish they should be spoon feeding him offensive opportunities in the A.

They have been doing that. Much is being made about him on the 4th line in the last game, but he has mostly played with Tynan (I actually think this was Bower's first game in the bottom 6). He's also played some with Dries too. On the 12th the top line was Bowers-Dries-Kaut. On the 5th the top line was Bowers-Tynan-Dries. He's been getting time with the best offensive players on the team. This was the first game he got pushed down. We don't know the whole story, but there shouldn't be a narrative of him not getting good minutes. They've been giving him the best minutes and they aren't getting what they need out of him.

My thoughts on Bowers are, if you're going to play him, then play him for something other than A.J. Greer minutes on the 4th line. It's a waste of everyone's time if the Avs recall him and then put him in for, like, 6-8 minutes. And in order to give him a meaningful role I think you gotta move someone, and it can't just be some 4th liner.

Honestly would not be surprised if the Avs made a move and he was part of the package going out. They just don't seem to be very high on him right now.

I feel like throwing Bowers a bone would be a good thing to keep his moral up.

Yes, he has NHL level puck and passing skills.

All 5 were real prospect goals tonight, never thought I’d see the day. They were all beauties too.

Don’t forget NHL speed! I’ve seen very little in terms of his play, so who would you liken his game to? Do you think his shot will hold him back at the nhl level?

Worth watching the highlights from yesterday. Some real saucey goals. Kaut just taking things into his own hands on that last goal.

Thank you for finding that, the Eagles have been real lame about highlights lately. It’s a good watch to see how terrible the breakdowns were, Dries (#15) in particular, Kaut saves a goal and creates the first one on the forecheck, good and bad from Werner and just absolutely beauties on each Eagles goal.

The fourth goal I would think Werner would want back, but a lot of those goals are scored because a Stars players is left uncovered for an easy tap in.

To me it seems like Kaut was doing a lot of positive things last night. I think whenever he plays again for the Avs he’ll fill a two-way roll nicely for us. I could see him being a very good line mate for a player like Newhook.

Great patience by Kaut there on his goal. And yes Foudy is a real player, I had him 31st on my final rankings before the draft took place and I hate using the word "steal", but that this might be one of the best Avs selections they've made in the past five or so years including 1st rounders (might be even longer). He was really underdeveloped during his draft year, but always had absurd amount of offensive tools with lightning fast skating ability, even though hench is also right in regards to his perimeter play. He might not be an overly consistent 5v5 scorer, but I think he's going to shine on the PP and you know what for a 3rd rounder that is fantastic value.

If nothing else his speed will be a huge asset on the PK, and even if he doesn't develop his ability to take the center of the ice much his playmaking skills would still be a useful weapon on the 3rd line next to another forward who's attacking the slot and net areas.

Yup, I love Foudy and that was a great pick. I honestly would have been fine with him in the first. He was one of the rare high ceiling/high floor players that drops in a draft. Now his ceiling is very unlikely to be reached, but with his skating, hands, and passing... he's going to find a NHL role somehow. He'd step onto the Avs and be a top 5 skater on the team... on a team filled with great skaters. Even if it is just a mediocre 4th liner, he's a NHL player. I think he can reasonably become a very good middle 6 guy.
