I just heard McGrath's name called for the first time tonight as he deflected a puck into the Sens end to negate an icing.

Schmelzer a good shot and Gambardella blasts one wide. Shot form the point held onto for the whistle.

Shaw races with Scmid for a puck coming towards the Utica net. They collide and Schmid won the battle. Shaw stayed down. He is causing a delay. He 's off for repairs and the blood has been scxaped up.

The Comets rubber sticks have been transported to Bellville . So many pucks bouncing off sticks.

G-------O-------A-----L!

Another goal from the Comets D. This one is for Russo. Not going to go 45 games without one.

2-2.

Vs Rochester on Saturday. The Comets tied it up just like this and Rochester got the next one shortly after and that was the game. Hope the boys remember that!

Teams slowly changing after a whistle and it's almost like a timeout. 8:53 to go.

Time for Holtz or Zetterlund to pick up their goal scoring.
Greer hits the post!

Penalty to the Sens.

Time to end the PP drought.

1st unit back out. Turn it over and it's back down the ice. too much selfish play.

PP over. Very little pressure. The Comets PP is too stationary and then when they miss the net they can't gather the puck back in.

Comets to the PK with 2:42 to go. Flynn called for slashing that no one saw. Game management at it's best.

Schmelzer and Talvitie were about to break out 2 on 1 and Schmelzer was tripped from behind. 4 on 4

OT would give the Comets a PP to start.

Comets almost blew the entire PP trying to get into the Belleville end.

:22 seconds of 4 on 3 to start OT.

If the Comets lose the draw and the PP wouyld be over.

They won it but have lost it for the entire remainder.

Back to even strength 4 on 4 until a whistle.

Bahl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

G-------O------A---------L!

All alone breaking down off the point and took a clean pass from Gambardella.

Zetterlund disrupted the Sens breakout outside the blueline and squeezedit to Gambardella who moved back into the zone and from a few feet inside the blueline sent it crossice to Bahl and he wired from the circle.

3-2 final with 2 3rd period goals.

Comment was made during the game that the Comets defense had to start contributing goals to the offense. Right on cue all 3 goals were scored by D-men in a 3-2 OT win.

Gotta love it.

When a team knows they didn't have their best game, but they squeeze 1 out , everyone takes a deep breath and breathes easier.

Next stop the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza just outside of the City of Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania at 6:05PM EDT on Saturday 3/19.. The Penguins are currently the 6th place team in the Atlantic Division with 58 points/winning % .518. They will play 76 games so have 20 remaining. Comets will only play 72 and having played 52 games also have 20 remaining. This game will start a grueling schedule for the next 9 games.

he next 5 will be every other day but #6 is back to back with #5

7 is another day in between

8 and 9 are back to back with only a single day between game 7

March 19, 21, 23, 25, 27, 28 30

April isn't much better with back to backs on the first 3 consecutive weekends. The middle one sticks in a Wednesday night day game mnaking it 3 in 4 nights.
They get 2 days off after the 3rd back to back before a mid week back to back in the first 2 of 3 in 4 more days.in week 4
They finish up with a back to back the following weekend.

This is where Tao Jones and I have both been harping all season about the lack of depth on this team. 3 major regulars missed tonight's game with "minor injuries", Deleo, Foote, and Okhotiuk.

The 6 D that played tonight is it for the team. 7 D-men total. The replacements they can bring up from Adirondack are NOT AHL material.

The 12 forwards tonight included McGrath who is basically invisible. Laberge has become the extra forward that can at least put in an effort and he has been necessary for 39 games. He has amassed 10 points /4 goals.
Come playoff time McGrath and Laberge both should be #s 13 and 14, with #14 being useless. However, we have to be concerned about the next 20 game first and there is no depth period when missing 2 forwards like tonight. This is not the normal AHL roster with next to nothing in reserve in house.

It will be interesting to see who the Devils paper down with the TDL 6 days away. The Comets really need a little help from above. Either papered down guys or trades that include AHL strength coming back to help the kids. If NJ is serious about their kids taking a run in the Playoffs this team needs some depth. It was mentioned in tonight's game that a D-man that can QB the PP would be of immense help. Their PP at the moment is struggling beyond mightily. They are also missing a real play maker in the middle. Nobody can control the puck and feed the guns. Holtz finished tonight with 0 SOG with Schmelzer as his center. Schmelzer had 4 SOG and that's because Holtz was setting him up instead of vice versa. It's nice to see Alex understand another side of his offensive game but with a shot like his he should be eating a lot of good feed. He's actually trying to do too much because the team is struggling. A couple key pieces would help alleviate that issue.

Mercer would actually be the perfect center addition and Smith to QB the PP, haha. But we'll see if they decide to send them down for the playoffs.

"Our puck management was terrible all over the ice and they looked a lot faster because their puck management was right on, their passes were right on the tape in full stride. We were putting pucks in skates, bouncing pucks over sticks. … We weren't nearly physical enough, so if you correct those two areas, the rest of it will correct itself."

This quote sounds exactly like what I have been trying to say about the Comets for some time now. This quote is from Sheldon Keefe talking about his Maple Leafs. That is exactly what is happening onthe ice with the Comets. Dineen hasn't mentioned it even a little, but that's been the issue with their game. It can't be ignored. It needs to be addressed if they are to have any long range success in the playoffs. Too many other good teams that are on top of their games to play like this.

Ain't that the truth! Every other NHL team will paper down players that will be key factors for their AHL affiliate's playoff hopes. Waiting to see if Fitz will follow suit.

This crap about they may be too tired due to their first long season is just that. Do you even have an inkling of a thought that if the Devils were in the NHL playoffs, that Mercer and Smith would be sidelined in order to recoup from their long first season while the rest of the team went to battle for the chance at the Cup? Not even!

This would be a brilliant chance to let the young future upstarts of this franchise to all play together and get a sense of what a playoff run can do to weld a group together for a serious career goal.......the Stanley Cup. Coming out next season with hockey's second best cup run, the AHL's Calder Cup, under their skates could go a long way for the future of the Devils.
