How the hell can anyone look at Danault's body of work, including preseason with the Kings, and crap on him at this point

I'm sorry but that's beyond rational reasoning, you're just out of your skull. The guy is a monster hockey player, and had 76% of the shot attempts despite the toughest starts on the team in the preseason, picking up just where he left off in MTL.

Someone (Kings fan) proposed Kempe/Kupari + 2nd for Kravtsov, what do you guys think about that?

/Rangers fan

That was me, and I was told by Rangers fans the 2nd was too rich, haha.

But Kupari and a thing (I was thinking LATE 2nd but not sure what we have) for Kravtsov gave the Rangers a natural C and us a natural W, made sense to me.

Exactly, I didn't watch him under a microscope during last season's playoffs, but what I saw I liked as a casual observer. Watching him more carefully during the preseason, he's a better player than I thought. He may not have much of a shot and won't score many goals, but everything else I liked a lot. Speed, puck handling, passing were all good. His defensive skills as advertised.

Yeah I said a 2nd would be enough, but if you want to give us that as well, sure!

I love the player. Hate the contract.

Maybe they could have gotten that this summer? But sending him down kinda signaled where his value is at now?

Only benefit to me, is that it moves Kempe out of the way for legit top 6 players. Or atleast future ones (I hope…)

It was an idea. I didn't say it was a good idea.

Well like I said, we’ll just see at the end of the season which center has the third most points. My skull is intact and I’m just out here shooting off my opinions just like you, RJ.

Bottom dweller teams like the Kings don't get good UFAs unless they pay a little more for them. It's the price you pay for sucking ass the last 7 years.
I think players have an objective cap value based on their skill set and age.

In free agency, the team that's willing to overpay gets the player.

I don't think it has anything to do with LA. It's just the nature of how free agency works. There are exceptions of course.

Nobody gets the top free agents without paying a little more. One extra year. $5m more over the life of the contract. NMC's. Whether you're bringing a guy in, or re-signing someone. If you're TB, you can get Perry for nothing and hope he's got some 4th line game left in him.

The downside of the cap is that anything extra you have to give hurts your ability to be competitive. It's why every GM hands out term. Really the only weapon GMs have. You want the first few years, but pay for the last few. Can't give $30m for 3 years, it has to be 5 or 6 years.

Even if the Kings were back to back champs, they're still not getting a wildly wanted Danault for $3m a year.

No you can’t. Not only did the Kings overpay for a 4C defensive specialist as soon as next season, they gave him a no movement clause for the first three seasons. I know many of you were all excited about this signing, but we might very well be regretting it in 12 months.
Well if he was playing 4c he’d probably waive it. Besides, it was a hypothetical and I don’t think need to lose much sleep about it at this stage. If Danault is our 4c we are likely in a fight for the Stanley Cup and we’d definitely be in great shape.
