With the 2019 Whitby Silver Stick Tournament set to begin today, we've put together an article previewing one of the biggest and most entertaining tournaments of the year. In short, there is no true favourite to take home this year's edition of the Silver Stick -- a reality which will surely make this year's tournament an endlessly interesting one.

Blows my mind why Edmonton SSAC comes every season, and every tournament they get throttled. Kelowna POE is even worse. Only scored 1 goal the entire tournament and have one win all season. Puzzling choices from the selection committee.

Maybe the tournament committee is trying to show parents of U16 players that club hockey in Ontario/USA is very good. You do not have to pay $35000.00 to get good hockey.
Maybe the tournament committee should come to Ottawa and teach the HEO executive or BOD.

Cream rises to the top.

Talent, coaching, and maybe just maybe residency rules could play a role on who gets to the top.

Just curious - are there any OHL eligible players that have or are considering an exceptional status request for the 2020 OHL draft?

Would usually insinuate an 05 playing in minor midget right now. Though there are a few playing full time up right now, none are standing out amongst their current peers.

That said, there shouldn’t be any, not that I know for certain what people send to CHL offices.

Thanks - usually by now you are hearing of potential exceptional status requests so not hearing anything made me curious as to if there might be any out there.

With the 2020 OHL Draft now less than three months away, we've taken the time to analyze and profile 15 of the top goaltenders poised for selection. While this list is anything but final, it features a slew of incredibly talented 2004-born netminders whose play has been nothing short of stellar thus far this season.

Meet and learn about all 15 goaltenders by following the link below.

Adam Fantilli's brother, the one he left the GTHL to play with, just committed to Michigan...

Could mean nothing. Could be a big problem for whoever picks 1st overall

North Bay probably won't bother taking him just to avoid potential disaster. Kingston would be interesting because of Shane Wright's presence. If Fantilli wants exposure, Kingston with the #2 pick (unless the Barrie & Niagara tank jobs fall below them) would be a great option.

A Chromiak-Wright-Fantilli line for 3 years would absolutely light the OHL on fire

That means they're taking a guy at #1 not knowing if he'll even come because he has NCAA ties now.

There's definitely a chance
Boy a tough decision for North Bay if he isnt fully 100% committed to coming to OHL they need that pick to play for them. Huge decision there, 1 in the hand??

Trade for his brother and do the full court press, both first line pp and shoulder rubs pre and post games. lol.

As many may know, Adam's brother (Luca) was taken by Niagara in the U-18 draft last season.
Here is an interesting problem facing the IceDogs.
If they fall out of a playoff spot and select 2nd overall, do they draft Adam Fantilli, roll the dice and think they can sign both him and his brother?
The issue for Niagara is, if they don't sign him they will have missed on the 2nd overall pick in 2020 and they don't have a pick in 2021.
Also would the OHL allow the IceDogs to select in the first round in 2021 because of a defected player when they had their original pick stripped from them?
Interesting to see what happens if they drop out of the playoffs.

They would get compensation the following year if he doesn't report

NB fan here. Maybe someone with solid knowledge of the process could help me in understanding the whole defected / defective player situation. I believe PBO was in the middle of this with Will Cuylle a year or 2 ago and either SAG or FLT went eyeball to eyeball with a McLeod brother a year or 2 prior to that.
If the only compensation is additional future draft pick(s), any gambles might not be worth it for the Battalion since I believe the team has to come out of this with at least one impact player for the ‘20/’21 season. Hopefully there is more than one out there beyond A. Fantilli.
