Yep, the way Parise's (and Suter's, for that matter) contract is designed, it's about the worst contract in the league to buy out.

It would give the Wild a pretty massive extra cap hit for years on end.

I think Wild and TSN media have mentioned on a number of occasions that a GM would have to be out of his mind to buy out Parise at this juncture.
Yeah, I agree.

But right now I can make a crazy UFA signing :thumbu:

BLUES DRAFT PARTY STATEMENT

Blues GM Doug Armstrong
: "We've decided to wrap things up with a kid who, if he were 3 inches taller, would be a top 75 pick in this draft. Kyle has a big battle ahead of him in the physical department, but we also think he's not done growing, and his game will continue to evolve as he does. What we do know is that he is immensely skilled with his stick and has some real slick vision on the ice. We're looking forward to seeing him beat the odds."

2020 picks:
2 #51 - Ty Smilanic, center from the USNTD program
3 #72 - Eamon Powell, defenseman from the USNTD program
4 #111 - Carson Bantle, left wing from the USHL's Madison Capitols
4 #123 - Ruben Rafkin, defenseman from the OHL's Windsor Spitfires
5 #147 - Ethan Cardwell, right wing/center from the OHL's Barrie Colts
5 #154 - Simon Knak, right wing from the WHL's Portland Winterhawks
6 #160 - Gage Goncalves, center from the WHL's Everett Silvertips
6 #182 - Adam Raska, right wing from the QMJHL's Rimouski Océanic
7 #199 - Kyle Crnkovic, left wing from the WHL's Saskatoon Blades

I will throw this out there JUST IN CASE...

Pittsburgh is willing to flip picks and drop back from slot 203 (even to the last pick or two, if need be) and is solely interested in perhaps a long-shot prospect you're not planning with anyway.

:kings full Draft Summary:

1(2): Quinton Byfield, C, Sudbury (OHL)
2(35): Emil Andrae, LHD, HV71 (SHL)
2(48): Daniil Gushchin, LW, Niagara (OHL)
2(55): Joni Jurmo, LHD, Jokerit (Jr. A SM-liiga)
3(66): Tristen Robins, RW, Saskatoon (WHL)
3(77): Sean Farrell, LW, Chicago (USHL)
4(97): Oskar Magnusson, C, Malmo (SHL)
4(109): Alexander Nikishin, LHD, Moskva (KHL)
5(128): Rory Kerins, C, Sault Ste. Marie (OHL)
6(159): Vsevolod Skotnikov, G, Moskva (MHL)
7(190): Trevor Kuntar, C, Youngstown (USHL)

Very happy with this class and also glad to add Jordan Harris, Kirill Marchenko, and Dmitri Voronkov to the pipeline via trade

That is quite a haul.

In fact, for most franchises, it'd alter the direction basically all at once!

I'm also still in awe that Marchenko was available in a deal.:)

But - and this is the case for Montreal, Detroit, and maybe Jersey as well - there are gonna be some real hard decisions to make, because a team just can't sign all the guys it may want to take a shot on when it takes 10+ players 2-4 summers in a row.

Of course, every team would like to have more shots and thus, more assets, than not. But the real GMing job lies in the juggling, signing and/or trading of these assets in the time that follows.

Wonder how particularly LAK, DET, and MON are going to handle the upcoming draft in real life, because all three have had tons of picks in recent years?

Particularly LA already has some real strong building blocks in place.

Haa, I get it.

Why didn't I think of that?

Anyhow, I'm more curious as to why a few other teams here have done basically nothing on the "business" front during this draft, as several don't even have the cap space to sign their own, core RFAs.

And we've seen nothing from them.

There's a massive cap hit in years 3,4,5 but you'd have that cap hit too if you didn't buy him out.
You get major savings next year, and savings again in year 2, so you can figure out some cap stuff/hope the cap goes up, and then years 6-10 is only 1.2 hit, quite manageable

would like to use pick 203 to select,
from the Prince Albert Raiders of the WHL,
center Ilya Usov

@5cotland: The New York Rangers are on the clock!

PENS DRAFT PARTY STATEMENT

Pens' GM Jim Rutherford
: "We're completing our draft by taking a birthday boy. Ilya is an overager in this draft, but he's first turning 19 today. Yes, August 3rd is his birthday and he just completed his first season in North America, where he was already a 2nd line center for a strong team. We feel this is a sign of good things to come.

He and 4th round pick Oksentyuk are of course familiar with each other and both are coming off rookies NA seasons that they can be very proud of. We like Ilya's enthusiasm and his skill set - he's a real creative guy who knows how to generate offense. Belarus has been bringing along players who have their eyes on an NHL career and we're going to give Ilya every opportunity to achieve that with our franchise."

2020 picks:
3 #91 - D Mitch Miller of the Tri-City Storm, USHL
4 #115 - RW Evgeni Oksentyuk of the Flint Firebirds, OHL
4 #118 - D Jacob Truscott of the USNTD program
5 #149 - RW Alex Laferriere of the Des Moines Buccaneers, USHL
6 #162 - LW Oliver Okuliar of the Lethbridge Hurricanes, WHL
6 #203 - Ilya Usov of the Prince Albert Raiders, WHL

Just off hand - I'm under the understanding that Eich Jackel tells us what his tool says about what a bonafide NHLer who is an RFA is scheduled to get.

For all I know, that might be the case above...

But in general, I'm operating under the guise that we're not to be choosing what we feel the RFA should be ready to accept.

Could we have some clarification on this?

Evolve-Hockey shows Dermott at $2m x 2 Years is a fair offer.
