Matte isn’t the problem. There’s too many “effects” for a matte finish. FFS he put a lens flare on a Matte finish, makes no sense.

Speak for yourself, I hate this new matte craze. Matte finish is the kind of thing that is cool if it was like 1 in 15 that had it, but when at least 7-10 of 15 have it, it isn't. For me, matte is largely an ugly finish which is why I only like it, when it is extremely rare.

“I like this mask”

You know, Dave painted that one!

“it’s pretty busy, too much going on!”

I do enjoy the matte finish but I think the colours have to be darker for it to work. Something like the following:

Like a lot of Dave masks....good elements, but poorly placed and executed.

I have no problem with goalers wanting personality on their masks, but I rewatched some of the games in the 90s and each mask just destroys everyone nowadays. Cory Hirsch had an amazing one and that was just the norm of the 90s in terms of creativity. Just think about it...

We somehow went from this...

I don't like a lot of DaveArt masks, because of what you said, the busy and crowded designs.
I agree, the 90's masks are clean and better looking than 80% of the ones now.
Not a huge Star Wars fan but think Driedger's is clean and not overdone but obviously have some bias as a FLA fan.
