Wow!...Moose Jaw on the ropes.....Now that he's signed, can Woo be sent to the Comets for the remainder of the schedule...or is he ineligible?

After having averaged about ten minutes TOI through most of the playoffs, Artyom Manukyan was down to 1:42 (4 shifts) today in Avangard's 4-3 OT win, the first game of their third playoff round.

Artyom Manukyan was pointless in 5:17 TOI as Avangard won 4-1. They're 2-0 in the semi-finals.

Anybody following Utunen? Karlsson? Palmu?

Replying to my own question (not the first time):

Palmu finished the regular season 4/14/18 in 29 games for TPS Turku. That's almost exactly the same pace he was at the previous year. He's pointless in 4 playoff games.

Karlsson finished the regular season 5/13/18 in 52 games for Kalskrona (Allsvenskan). He had 1 goal, 0 assists in 5 games in the qualification round, and I believe he's now back in junior playoffs, where he's 2/3/5 in 4 games.

Utunen finished the regular season 1/2/3 in 43 games for Tappara (Liiga). He's pointless in 4 playoff games.

That was exciting!

Thanks for the summary,I was wondering the other day how Karlsson was doing this year.I guess that's not a terrible result for playing in a mens league in his D+1 season but doesn't really jump off the page. His Jr stats are impressive, though.

The tale of two junior goaltenders from browsing through the recent prospect summaries from Southern Canuck, for which I and probably all of us are thankful:

DiPietro is the starter in the playoffs after having played sporadically (and not always impressively) after his trade to Ottawa. His stats in the playoffs look good.

Thiessen's had a rough year and if anything it seems to have gotten worse lately.

Thiessen is a ridiculously long term project and throwing him into any sort of future lineup at any level is a bit strange.

How many Vancouver prospects are actually playing in the Canadian Jrs this season? 5 yrs of drafing should have produced a lot more than I have been following this season.

Woo and DiPietro are the ones drafted.

Eliot signed but not drafted.

Brassard will join the growing long list of players not signed by the Canucks.

Utica is so bad at developing prospects, so I read from Vancouver, yet there doesn't appear to be many to develop. Last season was the first real shipment of prospects.

Dahlen was traded.

Jasek is staying afloat, but not showing any signs of NHL possibilities as of this season.

Lind and Gadjovich were deer in the headlights for half of the season and have shown little in the way of AHL excellence, let alone NHL possibilities. It's their first year, but MS summarized these 2 in post #1138 in the Utica Comets thread.

"Lind and Gadjovich have flopped because they were bad picks, not due to bad development.

Gadjovich was left in the dust when the pace upped in the OHL playoffs and couldn’t keep up at the WJC and looked completely out of place. Nobody should have been surprised when he then couldn’t keep up in the AHL"

Palmu was completely unprepared for the move to NA and instead of hanging in there and working to make the adjustment, he booked his whining ass back to Finland.

Juolevi was injured for the season after struggling to play defense at the AHL level after 18 GP.

Next season will see Lind, Gadjovich, and Jasek return. Palmu is another possibility, but I don't look to see hm as anything useful.

MacEwen will be back unless he magically makes the Canucks in spite of the glut of players Benning has already signed and the UFAs he will add.

The trio of Brisebois, Chatfield, and Sautner may all or partially return.

Juolevi has a good chance of returning based on his injury and poor start this season before he was injured.

The only new prospect will be DiPietro who will share the goal with Bachman.

Eliot might if he can make the roster. Otherwise he'll start in Kalamazoo.

Teves is the only other possibility unless his agent has already bought himself a spot in the Canucks 8.

I wonder how many other NHL teams only have 2 drafted players in Canadian Jrs.

Granted he may have a couple after the upcoming draft in June, but so will the rest of the NHL franchises and they won't be AHL eligible this season by age. The same is true of Woo..

It's not looking up right now for the '19-20 season in Utica. Not one center in the pipeline again. One forward who can actually make an impact at the AHL level, MacEwen. 3 D-men, 2 who could play together if one can play the right side, Sautner and Brisebois, and one who needs to be paired with a veteran, Chatfield. A pretty darned good D would include all 3 paired with 2 vets and and a 3rd guy who is AHL experienced but not yet a VET by AHL rules. Teves ans Eliot have to be seen.

Utca's biggest problem will be that Benning can't keep all of his contracted guys in Vancouver. They will all have to be waived to be sent down and then will qualify as Vets. That will determine that Gaunce, Kero, and Boucher the only Comets who compete at the AHL level will likely not get re-signed leaving the same group of **** centers, Darcy, Woods, Hamilton, and Gardiner, to get re-signed for a 3rd straight season spelling disaster once again for whoever ends up on the wings in Utica.

Given the Canucks track record with Junior players, why would we have many of them? Europe and the US College scene have been more fruitful for us so I'd like to see the Canucks keep making picks from those leagues. If those players tend to spend less time in the AHL, that sucks for you guys but as long as we get players its good for the Canucks as a whole.

I get why drafting players who'll probably hit the AHL matters to you, but why should it matter to the Canucks?

The good news for Artyom Manukyan is he got 11:01 of ice time today.

The bad news is that he was pointless in Avangard's 5-1 loss.

But he was an even +/-.

Madden has improved his stock but not that much and is not a better prospect than Woo, who should be in the 25 range.

I'm probably a bit more biased since I watch a whole hell of a lot more NCAA than WHL, but I'd say becoming the top line center of one of the better college teams is more impressive developmentally or at least comparable to Woo's season.

Has he been playing much center though? I haven't watched a single Northeastern game this year but it was my understanding that he had played mostly rw this year. I don't disagree with the rankings climb though; he has had a very impressive season by all accounts.
