That was unexpected.
I don't think they can. Wouldn't they have to be on an NHL team roster at the trade deadline?
Oh right - I forgot about those examples.yes, IIRC, that's close to fully accurate
OR the team's protected list, like a draft pick or a 'defected' player (typically a RFA who had been presented a QO, tho there may be other scenarios ...)
in '12 Kreider (a draft pick) joined NYR for the playoffs, signing contract only following the Frozen Four, played 18 playoff games before having played any regular season games
in '13 Zuccarello re-joined NYR for March, and playoffs, after a full KHL season. He had been QO'd RFA the prior summer, so was on NYR's extended roster or protected list and eligible
Trent Bourque signs with Belleville (AHL) to an ATO. I guess he will not signed with the Blues.
Hockey is not baseball.I don't think they can. Wouldn't they have to be on an NHL team roster at the trade deadline?
Hockey is not baseball.
Just just example should suffice: Torey Krug.
My mistake. What about Torey Krug? He played 2 regular season games for the Bruins that year and couldn't play for them in the playoffs (or their AHL affiliate).
He is indeed signedWhat's interesting is that NHL.com has him listed as a NSH player
Brandon Fortuanto Stats and News
His ID, 8481497, follows immediately after Lukas Craggs' 8481496 and Bobby Nardella's 8481495 who both just officially signed today. NHL.com does create profile pages for prospects signed to AHL contracts or brought in on tryouts, etc., - for example, Shawn McBride, 8481494, comes right before Nardella in the registry, and he just signed an ATO with Hartford - but they are not assigned to a team. As of this moment, no one comes after Fortunato in the registry.
If Nashville announces a signing today, I expect full compensation from both TSN and Sportsnet as a news breaker/insider
EDIT: Interestingly, NHL.com has also misspelled his name as FortuANto, instead of FortuNAto... the plot thickens!!!
He is indeed signed

Preds Sign Forward Lukas Craggs to Two-Year, Entry-Level Deal
