Paradis was like 15th. Apparently we had our heart set on Chuck Kobasew, and when Minnesota sniped him 1 pick before us, we were so unprepared we had no idea who to take.

Good times man, good times.

Pretty sure you're thinking of our other 0 NHL games played bust, Igor Knyazev, that was about a decade earlier.

Paradis is the one we got screwed on when Palmeiri went right before us.

this draft will be interesting for a number of reasons. i think you're going to really see our new organizational structure take some home run swings considering where we draft. the 25th to 40th spots are notorious for being where the free swingers draft the high upside/high bust rate prospects and to have 3 picks in that range is going to be exciting considering our recent moratorium on draft defense early. nils hoglander would be great for the name. bobby brink might be there. hard to imagine whiffing on all 4 of our picks in the first two rounds. exciting time to be a hurricanes fan.

You think they’ll really make all 4 in the first 2 rds? I hope they package at least one them with a D or a pick for a Fwd that can help next season. Although, 4 picks in the top 58 really could add some quality to an already awesome farm system. And like you said, 3 of the 4 picks are in the Aho/Debrincat zone, where the scouting staff has proven themselves very competent over the past few drafts.

I’d almost hope they trade the 1st and keep all the 2nds. The 1st has the stigma of perceived higher value and from what I know of this draft, a guy available at 28OA probably isn’t all that more talented than the 2 at 36 and 37OA.

I am very excited about the possibilities (Pelletier/Fagemo/Puistola or Hoglander/Afanasyev/Beecher or McMichael/Nikolayev/Tracey).
But I try to find patterns that reinforce my excitement. Unfortunately, I couldn't. The Canes have three picks in a 10 spot range--28-37. Using the 8 drafts from 2010-2017 only one has 3 difference-makes (2010) from those 10 draft positions. The most common is two players picked in that range that turn into above average NHLers. However, 2013's best is Ryan Hartman and 2014 hasn't produce a single high upside player 4 years later.
I think a realistic expectation is that the Canes get three players comparable to Kuokkanen or McGinn--not a disaster, but not players to replace Staal and Niederreiter as they produce less.

Did he lift after those wins? If not, concerns are valid.
Does this count?
