horrible fair catch... can see why hes not in the top leagues
To be fair since the XFL comes out in 2020 you don't know what they'll put into their leagueI'm gonna give it a look. Unlike the XFL, the AAF is actually attempting to be a legitimate alternative league/development pipeline and not make a sideshow of itself.
It has some legit names/minds behind it too.
This is the biggest thing. The whole league is filled with ex-NFL coaches and front office people (Polian for one)I think the biggest thing is that, while they are their own entity, they have the support of the NFL.
I think the players get $250k over 3 years not guaranteed. So, average of $83k per player. 53 man roster? Around $4.3 million in salary. Add cost for travel, uniforms, coaching, training staff, and team facilities. Will Americans watch a developmental minor league in high enough numbers to afford the salaries with no commercials? Reading through so much of the broadcast talk sounded like open pleasing to become NFL2.
We'll see how this works out down the line. When the XFL debuted in 2001, they posted an absolutely huge number and within a few weeks they were setting record lows for prime time network TV. The AAF is acquitting themselves much better, though.
Vince was trying to make it real. When the ratings tanked, that's when they turned to him for the gimmicks and boost ratings.I'm weary of drawing comparisons to the XFL. I remember reading a poll that said the #1 reason fans stopped watching was all the gimmicks. The AAF is shooting pretty straight with less reffing and a faster pace, which I think people are liking.
