The previous Prospects thread was nearing 1000 posts, and it hadn't been updated with this season's updated list of colts, so instead of asking Dave to handle yet another task for us, I decided to give management of this thing a go. This info is taken directly from Elite Prospects, with just a smidge of additional formatting, so forgive me if something's amiss with it...just let me know and I'll fix 'er up nice. I didn't separate the forwards from the defensemen only because it didn't seem worth the additional formatting work, but if we'd like to see them separated, I'll make it so.

Enjoy.

Speaking of Kaliyev. Still can’t believe he dropped to the second round. He was my #1 choice with our pick when we walked up to the podium in the 1st round, Suzuki was my #2 tho so I was still thrilled. But that swing for the fences pick so far is looking amazing for LA. Kaliyev looks like a goal scoring machine.

this one confused me quite a bit as well. scouts are mixed about if his skating will be a problem, but it seems like this happens every year that a player that showcases an elite caliber ability to score goals slides down the board for parts of his game that can be fixed. teams seem to forget sometimes that they're drafting the player for the player they develop in 3 years. you bring him in as a professional and you ask if him if he likes money and if he likes money enough he'll start to understand the imperative in front of him.

it also seems to be an organizational strategy now for us to take those players and it's a sound strategy. it wouldn't surprise me if they heavily considered him. the idea that it's easier to take a natural talent and teach him defense than it is to take a lesser talent that plays competitively in all zones and teach him hands is starting to become more viable. the exceptions to this strategy are players that are so dense they will never absorb coaching, but even a few of those guys that had that reputation started to see more clearly once turning professional and understanding that coaches are an extension of the general manager that is an extension of the owner and if you wanted an extension too, you should get to work.

Ryan Suzuki will be back playing hockey soon.
His Eye Injury prevented him from being chosen for U20 Team Canada.

Gene Pereira‏ @GenePereira1 Dec 2

Tough break for @RSuzuki61 with eye injury hindering his opportunity to show his progression and earn an invite to Canadian national team selection camp.
Good news for Colts is they’ll have him in the lineup soon.

Ryan McArthur‏ @ryanpmcarthur Dec 4

Tough not to see Barrie Colts superstar Ryan Suzuki among the Team Canada World Junior camp invites. His recent eye injury must be the reason for his omission. Hopefully he comes back from injury soon, because there’s been a very significant void in the Colts lineup recently.

I'll throw a few names out.....assuming we'll be drafting in the late teens with Toronto's pick and in the late 20's (to #31) with ours:

Jaromir Pytlik - this guys sounds like the quintessential Rod Brind'Amour pick....200 foot player, plays well down low, bigger body, responsible defensively, good skater. I could see him on our radar.

Noel Gunler - kid may have risen too high for either of our picks, but another guy with size and skill and a right shot. Seems to "come and go" and his skating is only average...still, he's a sniper.

Jacob Perreault - good skater, especially out of the blocks; another right shot center. While topping out at 5'11", he is almost 200 lbs. The shot wins rave reviews.

@NotOpie

ill add Dylan Holloway
Scott Wheeler -The Athletic - Nov. 4th: "There isn’t a coach in the NHL who doesn’t want a powerful, talented, heavy, physical winger who can push tempo and play with an edge. That’s what Holloway brings."

Or Jan Mysak (giggles).
Scott Wheeler -The Athletic - Nov. 4th: "I see a player with some exciting raw tools, led by an excellent release, light edge work and slick puck skills in traffic. Once he learns to use his teammates a little more or adds more of a passing element to his game, he’ll be fun to watch."

Mysak (giggles again) could really work on the raw areas with another year in Czech and then start working in Charlotte. No wasting away in Juniors for two seasons. His rating is all over the place. With two firsts, potentially, we have insurance for the risk. Maybe get him with our pick.

Before the borg turns those into 2 1sts, a 2nd, a later second and a third, two later thirds, a fourth and a fifth.
Funny enough this got me looking up how many picks we could make to still be under the reserve list amount. I know we're nowhere near the 50 contacts mark but I was thinking more the 80 limit... That apparently got bumped to 90 in the last cba without much fanfare. Learn something new every day I guess.

As much as Waddell has got crap, this team is built for a long run at relevance.

18 picks in the last 2 drafts....Ron Francis did a good job getting us picks to begin the rebuilding of the farm system; Waddell is doing a good job of ensuring that farm system remains stocked.

Skating is his big knock. If he was a strong skater, he would be top 5. There is some knock of his consistency in effort.

There's some question about whether or not the skating is "average" or if it's a function of that inconsistency. Regardless, kid is talented....if he drops some (I've not seen some projections in the top 10), he'd be another Suzuki-esque pick.
