First he's not good on the pp. now this season he gets Barely any pp time and still on paced for this 5 straight 40 point season

notice how you didn’t comment one bit on his defensive game? Wonder why that is.

And he's still terrible. Almost like points don't tell you anything about a player
wow what an insightful, informational well thought-out post, thanks for contributing to our discussion. do you have any thing else you'd like to add ?

I haven't seen any of the game tonight, mind you.

But I don't think Simmonds has been THAT bad. If he's willing to sign a 1 year, $1Mish deal......I think he's a fine 4th liner or 13th forward. He's always been touted as a fantastic veteran leader, and we could use more of that.

Now, if he wants a raise or anything near this year's salary? Buh-bye.

I'm not against Simmonds coming back.. I just hate the fact that they'd allow Botterill to make this decision. . Makes me think hes coming back

I don't want Simminds back...at all...but it may come down to what the front office thinks of both Thompson and Cozens being ready. If there is concern that either one can't be a full-time NHLer, or a RHD trade can't find a top-six RW or is used for a C, then a one year deal around 1-2 mil might make sense. Simmonds should only be an insurance option late in the summer.

Simmond should only be signed to be a 4th line RW vet leader and PP specialist, if we don't have better options. He should even be in consideration for the top 3 lines.

Will fix everything
I know people aren’t into the mood to get into the weeds, but what the hell are we going to do with Skinner?

Nothing to be done other than hope he's better next year. If the next CBA has compliance buyouts, that's what we do. A regular buyout isn't a real possibility for another 5 years.

Skinner should be back on Eichel's wing, Olofsson moved to Eichel's other wing so he can use that one-timer 5-on-5 and Reino should be moved down to the second line or traded.

He really shouldn’t need a legit 2c. That’s the point of having him.
He's not a line driver. He benefited from Eichel last season and cashed in as a finisher. We need elite finishers like Skinner who can play with
a playmaking 2C and a Reinhart.

Olofsson - Eichel - XXX
Skinner - XXX - Reinhart
Johansson - Cozens - Kahun
Girgs - Lazar - Simmonds

Okposo
Mitts and Tage with another season overcooking in Rochester till they dominate and force the Sabres hands.

We throw alot of money at Mikko Koivu. Extend Reinhart 8x8.
Skinner - Koivu - Reinhart
Most expensive and useless 2nd line in the NHL.

Smoke a big fat joint with him in the parking lot

Botterill: "Good news guys, we just signed Simmonds for 12 years $6.3mil/year average :yo:"

For some reason I’m stuck on the Skinner thing this morning, but...

Good players necessarily make good plays. That’s what makes them good players. They don’t need other players to do it for them. They find a way. They make things happen. This is team sports 101.

Yes, put a good player with another good player, you can expect more good plays and therefore more production, and hopefully a winning team. But what we’ve seen from Skinner is this year is deeper than just needing more good players around him or more opportunities. He hasn’t elevated other players and he hasn’t elevated himself. He hasn’t managed to create or seize chances. He’s flat out been a liability. He’s been a bad hockey player this year. And I’m pretty over the excuse making.

Sorry for the rant, but of all the things that have pissed me off about this team, Skinner is right at the top. He’s the 2nd highest paid player is Sabres history, we have him until 2027(!), and half of the city wants to tell me it’s everyone else’s fault that he’s not the same player he was last year. It makes me want to punch something.
