Awesome game.

Pretty great effort from all the forwards. Except Carter. Lol.

I like the overall ice time distribution so far, especially the defence. Doughty in the low 20s again is very impressive. Kempe and Amadio both being used pretty evenly with Lizotte having an effective 10ish minutes to start both games.

I’ll definitely take a slice of MacDermid in games like this with Tkachuk and that goof Bennett screwing around out there. Helped shelter Bjornfot as well. Good lineup decisions all around by TM.

It's been a while since we seen the guys really happy after a win. You could tell it meant a lot to everyone, even though it was only game 2. Lets hope we see lots of that throughout the season.

I didn't think Saturday's game was as exciting as everyone thought. This, however, was a great hockey game.

I'm tough on Kovy but he had more jump tonight. He's still going to be a turnover machine but all we can hope from him is to skate hard and go to the net like he did tonight.

Big Mac. What else needs to be said? Guy will take runs at anyone and this team plays better with him dressed. Again: He's a perfect #7D for where this team is at.

Thought Doughty played great. Good composure all game until the game winner, which might be the first time I enjoyed him acting like a jack ass. Good stuff.

Ryan was very good tonight, not sure what you are talking about. Yeah, he had three really poor shifts Edmonton, but tonight he did everything asked of him and he showed he can bounce back.

Bjornfot has been wildly overmatched in these two games. I am anxious to see how he plays at home before they send him back to Sweden, which cannot be in doubt now. He is most definitely not ready.
That may be true but it’s 2 games.

After 1 games half the people on here were complaining about Kovi being done, tonight not so much. He’s not going to snap his fingers and adjust instantly. If you recall he looked overmatched in his first preseason game. Let’s give him a little time before we decide. I don’t understand how you expect him to be dialled in from game 1. It was always going to take several games before we can start making valid assessments. His IQ and poise means he may adjust, but I agree he may not.

Well said.

I wrote this exact same thing but deleted it. Amazing how people jump to conclusions after each game. Each player being over analyzed.

One player was on waivers yesterday and is very usuable now and so on.

Give me 9 games before I call a rookie overmatched and not ready.

You can see what MacDermid is necessary.

Kings should send Bjornfot back to Sweden - we have Ryan and MacD and guys like Clague in the AHL.
As I said it’s just 2 games. Given how easily he out played the rest of the d chasing a spot in camp, I think he will be given every chance. If he’s learning and improving I think he will stay. Whatever they do though must be about what’s best for his development, forget contracts etc. His development must be the key driver.

I liked Kovy. I really wish they would utilize his shot more. He's been with the team for over the season and I don't know if we've seen them actually try. He's more of a specialist now. He had a great game and is going to have offensive production, but was also a turnover machine and a liability. That being said, I believe TMac is one of the perfect candidates to take advantage of Kovy and his strengths while limiting his weaknesses.
He wouldn't have to be delegated to a power-play specialist if he didn't continually make dumb and risky plays up the middle of the ice in the defensive Zone. It's amazing Kovalchuk hasn't figured this out by this stage in his career-- basically hockey 101.

Roy was by far our worst d-man again and this time he didn't have the McDavid excuse.

The stats match my eye test, dude was just ineffective. He didn't get blown up clearly like the other night, thank goodness, but he was still awful. He was our worst CF% player despite softer minutes.

Agreed on Bjornfot though, unfortunately, he just hasn't been the same guy as the preseason.

Preseason is not always equivalent to the regular season. Sometimes it is, but that's the problem with 18 year olds. Even Lizotte is 21, and 22 in 2 months. Bjornfot isn't 19 until April. He almost couldn't be younger while being in the NHL.

He wouldn't have to be delegated to a power-play specialist if he didn't continually make dumb and risky plays up the middle of the ice in the defensive Zone. It's amazing Kovalchuk hasn't figured this out by this stage in his career-- basically hockey 101.

You can't expect him to do that at this point. Can't bring in a guy in his mid 30's, who has always been a wildcard, thinking you can mold him into something he's never been. He is what he is, they have to work around it.

Suck it Calgary.

Good f***ing shit last night.

Kovalchuk looks like a beast, and the entire team is playing with passion.

Also, remember this salty ***** every time you read one of his articles pumping everyone else's tires.

Correct, you have to consider the source. I loved every bit of Dewey's post goal celebration.

Most new systems take a couple months for teams to go get settled in, so I think it will be a work in progress. And Calgary is not a good team, the Kings shouldn't have coughed up a 2 goal lead, but that will happen, esp with a young d.

And I love Amadio's game , he's developing into a very good top 6er.

I for one noticed Roy several times last night. Standing up Gadreau at the blueline in the first. Simply mauling that guy off the puck behind the goal line before fetching it and starting the breakout in the 2nd. Many blocked shots. Little things like that that added up to make for an impressive evening.

Defense as a whole was much better, Roy included.

Goal #1 was an uncharacteristically bad giveaway by Kopitar
Goal #2 was a bad rebound from Campbell and bad coverage by Amadio
Goal #3 should have been called back

Biggest issue with team, and something McLellan has not been known for, is managing emotions. During Sutter, Kings were always business as usual and methodical. Kings get some adversity then start playing on their heels.

Some of that is age and experience.

Kempe is still the weakest player. More so than Carter. I'm sure McLellan is using him to figure things out, but he is not fitting in.

If Bjornfot is just going to get less than 10 minutes of ice time (which was also sheltered), he would be better served playing in Sweden and not burning a year.
