Yeah, I concur with Jrull there
Sale, Porcello, and E-Rod is a good playoff rotation. Only Houston's is better IMO.
The bottom of the lineup is bad, but I don't know if it's something that we really can address. Vazquez is having a horrible year at the plate, but he's a great defensive catcher. I can live with him in the lineup if there weren't two other holes in front of him. If he doesn't improve a little, I think Leon sees more playing time down the stretch.
What they need at the deadline is a guy who can contribute and play either LF or DH. When the games start to matter, Benny is in center and Jackie is on the bench as a defensive replacement. Maybe they get a bat, maybe they found it already in Pearce (who is about as league replacement level as it gets with the stick. Which is better than JBJ).
I don't know what they expect out of Pedroia when he's healthy. Him being on the roster gives more options though, he can split time with Nunez, and if Devers hits a slump and needs a rest, Nunez can play there. I don't want to burn out Devers in his sophomore year, he's still a kid. That's another priority of the second half roster management.
My biggest concern is the 8th inning. Maybe Thorberg ends up finally being that setup man we traded for two years ago. But no guarantees. Barnes's numbers look fantastic, but in the 8th inning nursing a 1 run lead on the road in the playoffs, is Matt Barnes really the guy you want on the mound?
I like our middle relief though, Workman's killing it since returning to the bigs, Kelly is having a good year, Hembree isn't bad for what he is. If we get an 8th inning guy, that bumps Barnes to the 7th, which is much better. I'd look for a leftie specialist on the trade market, or just bring back Bobby Poyner who was doing great the first couple weeks of the season.
