We need to get another 3rd round pick or somehowe move up and get late 2nd round pick if Nordgren really falls that much. Top6 potential and even higher late 2nd round or early 3rd round. C'mon.

There are definitely some tantalizing dart throws in the second round this year.
speak english english, so I can also understand it

Aah, you mean attractive players at 2nd round?

Even more we should push hard the button to trade away one of our forwards Berglund or Sobotka. Shame Jbo and Gunarsson are pretty much unmovable at this point, 'cus of their injuries.

McLeod has some nice puck skills, his playmaking ability is pretty solid. I think the main question marks around him is whether the other aspects of his game will translate to the NHL. He's not a guy I'd take at 29 as I'm sure better options will be available.

Indeed. I find myself more intrigued with what gems BA will pull in the 2nd and 3rd round than worrying about what falls through by our 29th pick in the first round. "Help us Bill Armstrong. You're our only hope"

From what i have read Dellandrea is looking like a great late pick!
You might be the first person I've seen on HFBoards to praise McLeod.

Brock and his informal scout poll for OHL prospects both have McLeod behind all of Dellandrea, Noel, and Thomas (in some order).

It's close, to be sure, but the point is that he's probably not a target that's really worth chasing hard.
Dellandrea really does interest me, but from the limited draft research i have done he seems to falls way sooner that we would trade to.
@Bluesnatic27 what dont you like about McLeod? From the videos and couple prospect sites he seems to be very solid.

If Sobotka isn't traded on Friday as part of a package for a top 6 forward, I hope he is moved for a 2nd/3rd rounder on Saturday. I really didn't like him at RW last year and it is pretty evident to me that either he or the organization has no desire to play center. He isn;t good enough to pass the log jam at LW in this organization. I think he is a completely redundant piece on this team, but is a decent enough player that someone would be willing to give up some value for him to play LW for them. He can chip in 10 goals and 30 points in a defensive role and he is still fairly physical (he was 3rd on the Blues in hits last year even though he didn;t play with the edge he did 5 years ago). He's still good on the dot, which is a nice little bonus for a bottom 6 winger if you have an inexperienced center on his line who is going to get thrown out of the dot a bunch.

It makes a ton of sense to get a pick for him and I think there would be a buyer in the late 2nd or 3rd round.

Judging any player by just video is a terrible idea. They can make any player look strong.

Looks real good, doesn't he?

I wouldn’t be shocked to see him go to Montreal. They have draft picks to burn and need centers, he fits their desire to be physical (on paper), and we don’t need a player contract coming back the other way - just the draft pick(s). Seems like a good fit to me. They also have shown that they are willing to make a “bad” trade to get a player they like.

If anybody wants to take Gunnarsson for the same deal, I hope we take that deal too. With guys like de Haan, Hickey, and Moore on the free agent market this year, there’s no reason to hold on to him.

I feel like he's too much of a perimeter player and probably projects as a winger in the NHL. I'd rather have a guy like Benoit Olivier Groulx over him.

Having seen McLeod several times live, I can tell you that he sometimes has a case of the Yakupovs in the offensive end; he’s everywhere, but I have no idea what he’s trying to accomplish. In terms of tools, I think there more there with Ryan than there is with his brother, but I’d take Mikey every day of the week over Ryan. Mikey is arguably the hardest worker I’ve seen in the OHL. I think he’ll be a tremendous NHL shut-down centre in the future.

It’s really interesting to see Sean Durzi shooting up the rankings. I remember an interview with him last pre-season where he said he watched all kinds of Erik Karlsson film to see how he got pucks through from the point so consistently. Whatever he learned he applied to great effect this past season.

To me, McLeod is one of those guys whose sum is less than the total of his parts. He has very good speed and nice hands, but they don't translate into dangerous situations as often as you would expect them to (i.e. generating controlled zone entries or breaking down defenses). He has good size, but you wouldn't really know it by how he plays. He works hard defensively, but never seems to get the return on that investment that you would expect. He just doesn't factor into that many plays, or win that many pucks.

The production/impact just doesn't match the talent, and that's a real concern given his early birthday and three years in the league.

He's a good prospect in the sense that he's pretty likely to have an NHL career, but I just get the sense that the upside doesn't match the talent and required draft capital to obtain him. It's always possible he turns a corner down the road, but he's not a guy I'd go to bat for myself.

Good to know. So do you see Dellandrea as a better prospect to “chase”, in the sense of trading up for?

I prefer him as a prospect, but he's probably not one that I'd trade up for, either, assuming he goes in the early 20s. It would cost a lot to move up that high, and I'm ultimately not sure if he's that much better than someone like Wise or O'Brien, even if you're dead set on taking a center.

If someone like Bokk or Kaut falls, it could be worth it. That's about the lowest tier of guy that I would chase hard myself. Anything behind that and I'm not sure you're getting much of a return on your investment.

In my opinion, anything could happen at this point from 20 to about 50, so I’m not really interested in moving up. Assuming we keep 29 (and I hope the Hoffman trade brings prices down a little bit so we don’t have to trade it), we’ll get a good player there. Or trade down and get two

I have a feeling that the team is trading #29 for an established player. Otherwise I'm just hoping that Dellandrea falls to us.

Hoffman trade should not effect the market as that was a unique situation with all the issues surrounding him. It is obvious that few teams wanted him, not even the team that traded for him.

Berrgren or Dellandrea At 29, O’Brien or wise at 45(unless like an olofsson or Addison drops), kurashev in the 3rd, Sharangovich in the 4th and nico gross in the 5th would be my personal A+ draft(given our picks) 6th and 7th I say take a flyer on atleast one tendy.

yes, I’m supremely bored rn lol

Want an overwhelming amount of draft information? Okie dokie:

I took the average ranking for every player ranked for this year’s draft at Christmas, at May, and up until now. I measured the difference between the 3 rankings (by summing the differences between the first two measurements and the second two), and then ranked every player based on their final average ranking. Clear as mud?

Final rankings with total difference in rankings over the year. Positive values indicate risers, negative values are fallers. How that translates into positive/negative draft value should be looked at on a case-by-case basis. I.e. a faller could represent good value for us later, and a riser could be bad.
