Would love to draft Akil Thomas with our Penguins 1st.

Good compromise between game-breaking skill and reliable 2-way play.

Also, we are pretty stacked at C, it would be nice to see us take a high end winger in the 1st.

This is the type of players we need to target with that late first rounder. Hoping to hit a Konecny, Pastanak, Tolvanen type.

Does our pick from the Penguins change to 30-31 if they make the finals?

Oh damn, so we have to scout the 20-31 range as fans, in search of the next Boeser.

    I'd rank mine as:

    1. Hockey sense (smarts, anticipation, vision)
    2. Skill (puckhandling and playmaking)
    3. Tools (size, speed and shot)
    4. Intangibles (work ethic, character, etc)

Think shorter list, I'd expect he will be going mid rounds

I see it as follows ranking the factors as A, B and C in terms of priority:
    A Puckhandling
A Playmaking (passing and hockey sense vision)
A Shooting (wrist, snap and slap shot, speed and accuracy)
A Skating (top speed, acceleration, edge work, stability)
    B. Physical play (body checking, physical strength)
    B. Defensive play (backchecking skills)
    B. Consistency of work effort
    C. Size (height, weight)
C Character (team member versus out for himself)

    if we dont get

    Dahlin
    Svech
    Zadina

This guy is worth the gamble. Arguably the best skater in the draft and ridiculous hands, composure and creativity to go along with it.

He dwarfs Tkachuk in terms of skill.

Hughes is all nice and dandy but I'd prefer this guy:

Any other draft and he'd be the overhyped sought after number 1 D guy.

Almost a year younger than Hughes .. won't turn 18 until August.. the U18 worlds this kid will be on full display. He was supposed to be pretty great at the 5 nations cup this year. He was excellent at the Hlinka last year.

I wouldn't mind Hughes with an 8-10 pick. Hughes is really skilled.. so is Merkley, obviously Tkachuk isn't ranked where he is because he is more skilled than these guys. Hughes was outstanding in the summer showcase last year. His WJC was not great but he will get to go again. He has been coming on lately..

I like Boqvist too, but the only place he seems to have an edge on Hughes is his shot. Otherwise I think Hughes has equal/better hands and better poise from the point.

Hughes as a draft eligible and rookie is outscoring/keeping pace with guys like Makar, Fabbro, Krys, Adam Fox who are all highly hyped prospects.

But I do need to watch them more, especially Boqvist.

Like SOA said Hughes is year older. Boqvist has the “it” factor. Guy plays hugee vs the best. His d game and skating just as good.

One report said “he’s got the skills of a number 1 c playing D.” That is how I’d sum him up as well. Guy is a monster.

Rank these players in order of how you would for the Senators pick
    I rank them like this..
    1. Brady Tkachuk
    2. Quinn Hughes
    3. Noah Dobson
    4. Evan Bouchard
    5. Ty Smith

I am not passing on Brady if Dahlin, Svech, Zadina, Boqvist, Wahlstrom are all gone
I find Hughes vs Dobson a tough choice and I find Bouchard vs Smith a tough choice

    Dobson
    Tkachuk
    Bouchard
    Hughes
    Smith

Fine with either Tkachuk or Dobson 1st, both over Boqvist as well for me

I probably put them in the same order... but at the top I may have hughes first... I was just wowed at some of the things he could do at the wjc when he was "On". This is a hill I may be prepared to die on.

The thing about Tkachuk, is that we have never really had a player of his skill set. So while there are players that likely have higher ceilings, I would not mind picking him if we are outside the top 5.
