Again. Stupid asset management. If Gardiner costs only money, why lose assets + lose money on a trade?
Because I want more than a mediocre player? Gardiner doesn't impress me at all. You're free to disagree on the evaluation, but if you choices are between a guy I don't like via free agency, and giving something up to get a guy I DO like, that's a no brainer.

If you guys are happy with DeKeyser, Ericsson and Daley as our LhDs, I'm out from this discussion.
I never said I was. Daley is serviceable, but that's a far cry from happy.

If I'm going into free agency, I want either a stud (which hardly ever happens) or a cheap flippable player. Gardiner is neither. Let the other teams overspend on second tier guys for now; I'd rather give up a decent asset or two and land a high quality player, if I need to supplement in the short term.

Not at all, but that's where a trade should come into play. Even if we sign Gardiner, I'm still not happy with those 3. Ideally, we'd fine a way to upgrade multiple defensemen.

Not happy but realistic in that the odds of DeKeyser going anywhere while Holland is around is 1-1000000. DeKeyser is a Michigan guy.

DeKeyser is just fine, if we have offensive dynamos like Cholowski and Gardiner manning two other pairs on the left side.

Just get that skill on the right side to be matched up with DeKeyser.

If our UFA defenceman isn't Karlsson, Gardiner is the 2nd best option.

Pretty acquiring Muzzin pushed Gardiner out from Leafs' next years cap.

Pass. I would avoid Gardiner at all costs. Leafs fans can't get rid of him fast enough lol. While I admit not all the criticism is warranted, he consistently makes questionable decisions with the puck. Sure he has some nice offensive skills, but his play in hiw own zone concerns me too much to throw 5-6 million at him on a multi-year deal.

I think Gardiner has become a very underrated player in general,he gets a lot more criticism than he deserves and the Leafs will miss him a fair amount once he's gone

that said I also think the Wings are in a position right now where if they can't find a way to get someone that's at a level he just isn't at i'd rather just do nothing for the time being

i'd much rather be really bad than kind of bad

Abby to the rescue. He is back on the first line. Bertuzzi is out for the weekend with an upper body injury.

The media is shopping Doughty too. If for some insane reason he gets moved, the Kings will be a lock for most pingpong balls.

I would never trade Doughty, no matter what. Are you last in the league or contender. Never.

In general, his type of guy is the toughest piece to acquire. You can still rebuild a new Kings core around him and he wouldn't be too old.

He is 29 and signed until 2027.

You can trade those secondary weapons like Muzzins and Martinez and Jeff Carters behind Doughty, but you keep that level of Elite Norris guys.

And Philly. These two teams finished with 98 and 97 points last year, and have bottomed out this year. And now that Philly has shown some life, they've come out and told the world they're open to trading everyone off the club. Both clubs have had some injury issues but they should be better than they are. And Philly definitely shouldn't be waiving the white flag on their entire roster.

Big night for the tank.

A Detroit win or loss will make a big difference to how far off we are from the bottom.

All low teams in action. 11 teams within 4 points. There’s only 1 game that 2 of these teams play each other. (Phi vs Edm)

21 points available.

I’ll give a proper update when I find time.

We’re #1! We’re #1! lol

Thanks for the post, I was wondering what the most recent odds were...Larkin out for 1-2 wks (or more) will likely seal the deal on best odds. I've never condoned intentionally tanking, but if you're already a bottom 5ish team, starting a tank in March is fine with me...the players obviously disagree.

So far so bad.
I decided I don't want to look at the standings anymore. The longer Nyquist, Howard, etc. are still on the roster, the worse this team's odds get. They should have been dealt a long time ago.

Flyers and Devils win.

LA lost and Chicago is tied.

Ottawa and LA will finish bottom two I almost guarantee it. After that it’s a crapshoot. I don’t see Ottawa nor LA playing better than us.

Last year, we didn't count for teams outside of the 4 point window but it would be silly not to track for Ott and LA.

Bolded teams are in action tonight.
Ana vs Tor
LA vs NYR
Van vs Phi
Ari
vs Dal

9 points possible. Detroit is off for a few days, maybe the tracker will look a bit better before they play.
