Man, I’m going to be disappointed if Frolik starts the year in the top 6

I'm not too concerned. If it works out that's great. If it isn't then I'm sure changes will be made.
If there's one thing I've learned watching these preseason games its that Peters isn't hesitant to juggle line combinations.. unlike the last guy here.

The lines in practice. Appears this is where Peters is leaning for opening night.

That's 13 forwards and 8 defensemen plus 2 goalies, not counting Lazar who's been waived. Is it possible that the Flames will start the season with 8 d-men on the roster?

If Lazar is sent down it's possible. Brad said he doesn't want to, but Brad says a lot of things to the media and I don't believe him anymore after the Hamilton trade lol

Lazar would have been sent down with everyone else I think. I suspect the Flames will potentially grab a forward off waivers and Andersson will be demoted

I am over Frolik in the top 6. He is completely neutering Tkachuk out there. Even Backlund can't keep up with Tkachuk, not that I see any better option at center, but Tkachuk is too good to be playing with defensive specialist players on a shutdown line.

I don’t get it.
Hope it works.

I have mentioned all off-season that I don't want to see Tkachuk used in a heavily defensive role again this year. With Backlund and Frolik on his line there is no other line to take those minutes.

Plus it would be nice to at some point get our 3rd best offensive player with some creative players. Backlund is fine but Frolik is not the guy that should be playing with him at all if we want to get his full offensive potential out.

It seems like another year of ok not great production out of him and another year of hoping the top line doesn't go cold because the other lines are not consistent enough to pick up the slack.

I also don't get the point of paying Neal all that money to waste him on the 2nd PP and with a rookie and dud like Ryan.

I think Andersson will be assigned to Stockton and Prout kept around for toughness. Lazar may have survived assignment, for now.
I really think the team will start the season with 8 d-men. I think they're pretty sure who they want on the team with regards to the forwards, its just the defense that's a bit uncertain. I think before the preseason started they had Andersson pencilled into the lineup but then Valimaki has played so well and Andersson did too that they're not sure what to do just yet.
Wouldn't surprise me at all to find out, as we speak, that Treliving is on the phone calling other GMs to see if any are interested in a Stone trade. I personally, wouldn't have a problem with Valimaki-Andersson as our 3rd defense pairing with Prout eating popcorn in the press box.

So Bennett on the 4th line, has he been that bad in pre-season?...Haven't had a a lick of time to see anything this year :(

I've always wanted Neal on either the first line or the 2nd. Lindholm seems to have some chemistry with Gaudreau and Monahan so that puts Neal with Tkachuk and Backlund which I think will work out quite well.
I'd move Frolik to the Bennett - Jankowski line and have Czarnik play with Dube and Ryan.

He has been very good in the pre-season, but Peters likes pairs and is keeping Bennett with Janko. Bennett should be on the 3rd line at worst, but the Flames depth/Peters love affair with Ryan keeps him down. At least he has Czar on his line so he has someone with a good amount of skill who can keep up and bury chances when they get them. It is more of a 3b line than a 4th line, just hope they get enough ice-time.

I honestly don't mind the spread of wealth. From what I've been reading Czarnik could be a solid contributor...If they get soft matchups, look out!

Peter coached Ryan in Carolina as well as in Spokane. He obviously has great trust and faith in Ryan.

Calgary really has one first line and 3 second lines. There is very little that separates the bottom 8. Chucky has the talent to be on the first line but with Johnny there it leaves no spot open.

I hope they do get Frolik down a line or two, I love everything Frolik brings but everyone is right, the Flames need more offense from the Backlund line.

I also hope they start Valimaki-Andersson as the third pair and send Lazar down. Keep Stone around as a veteran incase either falter and Prout as the longer term PB guy. If Valimaki or Andersson falter early, send'em down and call up a forward. If they don't, then just cut Prout, he is pretty much a dime a dozen guy.
