Nest year will be more crucial to the next tv deal in the US. Not this year. We are still 2 years away from the end of the current tv contract.

Yeah my thinking and understanding is the industry standard is normally for negotiations to start 12-18 months out. So maybe you're right. Negotiations should start within 6 months as the deal is up at the end of the 20-21 season so sometime during so by Oct/Nov of this year in the middle of next season. If things are really mended and rosy between NHL and NBC hopefully we'll have a quick announcement and a sweet deal with 20 to 25 games on NBC.

NBCSN

2018-19
vs 2017-18
304k --- 302k

NBC

2018-2019 vs 2017-18
1.266M --- 1.29

NBC/NBCSN

2018-19 vs 2017-2018
413k ---- 417k

There are some wild cards here. One streaming average TAD Total Delivery could boost the overall average.
Two there are by my count 5 games that rated too low to have a TV aren't apart of the 304k and 413k Cable average. A month ago when NBC PR put out their numbers they were a little higher than the numbers we've accurately tracked on here. So since we didn't include those 5 games which would in effect lower the overall average either NBC didn't include those 5 games or the streaming numbers are really strong. The 5 games are below, regardless it will be interesting to see the numbers. This year will be the crucial year as this will be the last chance to improve fortunes for a big TV deal.

10/23/2018 San Jose/Nashville N/A
11/01/2018 Winnipeg/Florida N/A
11/06/2018 Edmonton/Tampa Bay N/A
11/20/2018 Edmonton/San Jose N/A
04/03/2019 Calgary/Anaheim/NA

Interesting.

Looks like ratings were flat (at best), and technically down compared to last season (which were already in the basement).

The NHL needs to get serious about making the TV product more compelling and opening up the game. These TV numbers are just horrid.

Eddygee's numbers are (as usual) wrong.

This is correct:

NBCSN

313k vs 302k (UP 4%)

NBC

2018-2019 vs 2017-18

1.31M vs 1.29M (UP 2%)

NBC/NBCSN

2018-19 vs 2017-2018

424k vs 417k (UP 2%)

Numbers aside, NBC has been a terrific partner for the NHL. The best since FOX (though probably not quite as good).

ABC/ESPN was an ungodly nightmare for the league.

I can’t find the post or article but it talked about NBC basically paid off its NHL investment in 2015. Everything since has been pure profit. They bought low and now are cashing in.

Prediction: absolutely no one watched that Islanders-Penguins game

The NHL has traditionally avoided playing on late Sunday afternoons when the final round of The Masters is being played. The Masters being moved up 5 hours because of weather changed everything and I am willing to bet Gary Bettman was watching Tiger in his man cave instead of hockey.

People actually wasting time to watch golf is a problem with people in general and not with the NHL.

Interested to see how the Avs game did in the Denver market on Saturday night vs. the Nuggets game which started I believe a few hours earlier....

Avs and Nuggets both started minutes apart around 8:40 PM local time. I'm also curious to see who won the rating in Denver. I believe the Avs got dumped to Altitude 2 so I'd expect the Nuggets won the night.
