Canucks cannot attract useful free agents. Tavares is not coming.
Green will not play a bunch of rookies. He limits it. This might become an issue?
Benning can't win a trade. O'Reilly isn't coming.
Canucks do not understand goaltending. This is an Achilles heel for them and they cannot fix it.

Need another defensive option at C so Bo can have the OZ starts. Ideally a LHer to complement Sutter for defensive zone face offs.

Also need someone already in the organization to play Baertschi down the lineup. He's the default option beside Bo and Boeser, but he's over his head playing vs top pairings. Potential candidates would be Leipsic, Goldoblin, Virtannen, Dahlen, maybe Jasek.

I'd like to see a better option at 2C as well. Overpay on a short term to get someone to play with Pettersson. Gagne does at least have some offensive vision and creativity, but having someone that can drive the line would take a lot of pressure off EP as a rookie.

I’m thinking the following:

1) Try and maximize Eriksson and get him going again. Play him with Horvat.
2) Use Boeser’s prowess to carry a guy like Gagner. Gagner was half decent last year when he played with Boeser and Vanek.
3) Pair Gudbranson with Edler. Guds actually looked pretty decent playing alongside Edler
4) Put Hutton back with Tanev if Hutton is still here. Back in 2015-2016, Hutton looked decent playing with Tanev. Use Del Zotto or a UFA vet (Haan?) to break in Juolevi instead.

I recognize that coaches (Travis Green is not alone in this respect) give veteran players more leash, but he hasn't accomplished anything in his time in Vancouver. If you are going to preach accountability you need to hold under performing veterans to the same standard as rookies. If he is not one of the 23 best players at training camp he should be waived and sent down. If he can't play with pace and intensity he should be scratched.

How can the organization preach accountability when at the very top there's no accountability?

MS has made this point already but it's amazing to contrast our behaviour with that of Vegas, who trade 1+2+3 for Tatar but then stashed him in the press box when they didn't like his play. Amazing how accountability matters in a quality organization.

I want to see how extreme Green can get with his line deployment. The Sutter and Beagle lines should take all defensive zone draws and match up with opponents' top lines, while the Horvat and Gaudette lines get north of 60% OZS. That in and of itself should provide some entertainment at least, because this team is going to be god awful to watch for close to 25-30 minutes a night.

So many players I would like to see dealt - Sutter, Gagner, Eriksson, Granlund, MDZ, Eagle, Guddy - but very little likelihood of any of them moving.

I don't think they should start the year with Quinn Hughes in the lineup, though. The WHC's are not a reasonable facsimile of NHL hockey. He'll get knocked around and discouraged in this lineup.

It's not 1985 anymore when you need to have all your tough guys on the 4th line. 4th is a good spot for him. Easier Matchup
