Big difference from Sportsnet list posted earlier ... Petterson, Vesalainen especially. If Owen Tippet (12) falls down to us he would be a good pick IMO.
Tolvanen could be good if he's in our range as well.

Should keep an eye on Michael Rasmussen 6'5" 215 C/W BC boy could be a mid 1st rounder.
30 goals and 51 pts with the Tri-City Americans.

Yamamoto will be a much discussed prospect in this draft. His skill is that of a top 10 talent- top 10 scorer in the WHL on a mediocre team. He's a plus skater and plays very hard. At the U18 tournament last spring, he kept up with the likes of Jost, Brown and Keller in scoring [7 goals, 13 points in 7 games]. But, he's very small- I've seen him listed as small as 5'7 and as tall as 5'9. And he is in his 3rd year in the WHL, he was just a couple weeks too old for last year's draft.

You see small players fall in the draft all the time. Marner and Keller were exceptions as they put up insane numbers, plus they were not as small as Yamamoto.
Debrincat fell to the 2nd, Konecny to the end of the 1st, Bracco end of the 2nd, Petan in the 2nd.

Personally, I'd take him in the 1st. He reminds me of Konecny in terms of his size being his one big weakness. And like Konecny, he doesn't have a lot of help on his junior team. His effort level is great, he skates very well and has a nice wrist shot. He passes and handles the puck well, and he's a big threat on the PP.

Now keep in mind, I'm not some big Spokane Chiefs fan. I'm basing my view on what I've read and a bunch of videos I've watched, so I'm no expert. Here's one of the videos that shows a lot of his good qualities.

There are a few prospects on these lists that I like a lot including Rasmussen, Tippett & Foote. However, I also like Poehling & maybe I'm being influenced by Button who seems to like Poehling & has him much higher & projects him to be a 2nd line centre with potential to be a 1st line centre. Some of these other guys look like they could go much sooner especially a big skilled body like Rasmussen while Poehling should be right around where we could end up drafting from.

If Button is also correct & Brown turns out to be a 1st line centre & White turns into a 2nd line centre then adding Poehling who would be a very good point producing 3rd line centre seems to me to be ideal since he can also move up in the lineup. Ottawa would certainly have good young strength down the middle, they would have size down the middle & they already have a couple of young skilled wingers to compliment these guys. He is also versatile & could play the wing if needed. Of course, they could use skill & size everywhere & Rasmussen on a wing with Brown would be a very huge top line which is intriguing.

thats what I was thinking. Still not sure how much of a project Rasmussen is. He can definitely score so it could be a good compliment to Brown.

I would have trouble passing on Lias Andersson if he fell to us as well. He is a Swedish army knife forward already in the SHL.

Looking forward to McKenzie's list.

I live in Brooks and have been able to watch Makar for a while. Pretty exciting player, reminds Button of Karlsson.

Draft Analyst Mock Draft. Sens pick 21st

http://www.thedraftanalyst.com/mock-drafts/2017-mock-draft-round-1/

21. LW/C Marcus Davidsson (Djugardens, SHL): Speedy offensive force who can play center or wing, but probably ends up on the flank thanks do a deadly shot that he can release in a hurry. Davidsson has hit a bit of a wall in the SHL after producing with regular minutes earlier in the season, but he’s still regarded as one of Sweden’s top teenage forwards. He is a tenacious forechecker who finishes his checks and can kill penalties.

The more I look into this draft the more I think we could end up with a pretty decent prospect in the 15-20 range. The top end of this draft is very weak, and the depth might be lacking a bit toward the end of the 1st, but there is actually a good number of solid prospects that are projected to go in the 10-20 range.

I'm talking about guys like:

Cody Glass
Lias Andersson
Eeli Tolvanen
Martin Necas
Matthew Strome
Isaac Ratcliffe
Nikita Popugayev
Kristian Vesalainen
Maxime Comtois

Cale Makar
Nicolas Hague
Miro Heiskanen
Juuso Valimaki
Cal Foote

I think pretty much all those guys have realistic top 6 F/top 4 D potential, based on what they have showed so far. Some of them will undoubtedly fall as the year progresses, and some players not listed will rise significantly and become potential high picks , but I think there's enough depth in the 10-20 range to ensure we will end up with a quality prospect, should we finish in that range.

Yup, I'm confident our scouting staff can pull out another solid first rounder.

I'm OK with sending all of our remaining picks to Colorado plus a player in exchange for an already established top six forward.

Hey, you forgot Ryan Poehling C/LW, he could also be within Ottawa's range & would be a decent 1st rd pick.

This Draft is going to be fun. There is such a disparity between the picks and where they will fall. Very little consensus outside maybe the top 4 or 5.

That's what I was coming to say, I've seen some guys in mock drafts that were in the top 10 in one mock draft & then in the high teens or twenties in another draft, the disparity as you say is remarkable this yr. And Ottawa even if they end up around 20th or higher could still an excellent prospect fall to them that high in the 1st rd similar to Brown falling to them last yr.

The more I read about Comtois the more I like about his gritty play but there are also quite a few players that should be within Ottawa's reach that I like. Hopefully, whoever Ottawa picks turns into an excellent player & becomes NHL ready sooner rather than later. I also hope that Ottawa doesn't trade this 1st rd pick away unless it's for something HUGE.

Best goalie draft in a long time.

There's probably 5-10 guys worthy of a top 2 round pick. If there's a year to draft a goaltender it's this one.

Agreed, but I hope the Sens don't draft one until the 3rd rd or trade up to get the one they want outside of the first rd.
