This game was not as bad as the score would indicate. The Mutts scored twice per period. However, the Bisons dominated large stretches of play and, in fact, outshot the Banjolovers 25-23 after two periods.
The Bisons started fast, but Sask opened scoring shortly after killing a penalty. The difference in the 1st period was that Sask capitalized, and the Bisons missed glorious chances. In the dying stages, Zach Franko missed a wide open net from the slot, just inside the dashes.
The 2nd period goals were on the shaky side. The Bisons seemed shaken by the unflattering scoreline, and it showed when they waived the white flag in the 3rd. Dasan Sydora finally got some playing time, and missed the first shot he faced, just 45 seconds into the period.
The Bison line-up was unchanged from Friday night, except that Sydora replaced Spriggs in goal for the 3rd period. Saskatchewan changed two defencemen, #25 Ruopp was in for #8 Lishchynsky and #27 Johnston was in for #2 McFaull. Also, Cooke replaced Kozun in goal. Up front #22 Johnson was in for #11 Shirley and #18 Yakubowski was in for #29 Forsberg.
Scorers:
1st - 10:13 - Sask Michael Sofillas
1st - 14:14 - Sask Parker Thomas
2nd - 06:40 - Sask Jesse Forsberg
2nd - 17:44 - Sask Josh Roach
3rd - 00:45 - Sask Kohl Bauml
3rd - 09:46 - Sask Parker Thomas
The weekend split leaves Sask 5-0-1 in 2nd place, and the Bisons are 2-4-0 in 6th. Since the Bisons have now played the top 2 teams from a year ago, and so far this year, they are sitting fairly well in the standings.
The Bisons are at home to the MRU Bluegars next weekend on Friday and Saturday nights. The way the teams look, that series could be the one to decide who will finish 4th and host the quarter-final round of the playoffs.

The Banjocats played well in this road series, but in the end got no points. UBC is now 3-3-0, and Regina is 1-4-1. The teams stuck with Hewitt and Herringer in goal, and their stats were both solid. Once again, UBC had to play one man short. After last weekend, UBC was on the ropes. This sweep may not assure them of anything, but it certainly must be looked upon as a pothole avoided.
