Possibly but that won't be easy. They didn't improve (as of yet) and the competition in the division around them did. Calgary, Oilers are Yotes will be better. Kings had far too many hollow points last year, low scoring games tied in the 3rd that they won with a last push or tied and went to OT. 24 from OT wins alone.
That should be the exception , not the rule . Good teams, contending teams need to be consistent, take a 3-1 lead into the 3rd and lock it down. they haven't been able to do that for over 2 years now. It's the reason they have 1 playoff win in 2 post seasons. The competition around them , in some cases, got faster and deeper, they didn't.

Making the playoffs is never easy.

But with the same horses, Kopitar/Quick/Doughty ETC, the Kings should be just fine.

Edmonton is looking pretty good right now.

Added Lucic, Larsson and Puljujarvi. Puljujarvi may end up being better than Laine and Matthews. Of course, they dealt Hall.

But McDavid and Draisatl are just getting going. Adding Sekera and Larsson in 2 years bodes well to give them their best D core in years.
Darnell Nurse is not bad either.

They still have around $7 million in cap space too.

To advance in the playoffs we needed:
1.) A couple of bottom pairing defensman
2.) A 4th liner that can't score
3.) A 2nd/3rd line tweener that struggled in TB/EDM and once upon a time got traded away for scraps
4.) A below average backup
5.) A couple of pissed veterans that might be sore towards Kings management

Clearly successfully filled those holes. Just send the Cup to LA, no need to have an NHL season.

The Kings benefited greatly from 3 on 3 OT wins last year that cannot be counted on IMO. Combine that with being a worse team (like you said) and you have a borderline playoff team

But it's possible that the team will be more consistent. They pretty much coasted from January to March. At worst I think the Kings would go .500 at 3v3. I think they're genuinely good at it.

I'd imagine McDavid has some pretty big performance based bonuses they have to leave room for

Good point. Also have McDavid and Draistaitl to re-sign in 2017. Can't add on $3 million of performance bonuses on top of whatever he signs for.

Dean, why hast thou forsaken us?

This is the 'reinvent' plan he spoke of. Looking worse than his first moves, signing Nagy, Handzus, Calder, and Stuart. He's recreating
2006 again...which is in a way, reinventing...or regurgitating. But those 4 of 2006 were superior and all NHL players, compared to the 2016 5 of Latta, Zatkoff, Trotman, Purcell and Gilbert.
