At this point it’s entirely up to what a team needs. If you need defense you have the choice of the steadying force in Mcavoy or a great offensive quarterback in Fox (not saying either of them isn’t great at the others aspect).
Fox's better than McAvoy defensively. You must be confusing him for an offensive quarterback because he's better offensively as well.

Gee, that's weird!!!

Yeah, let's use advanced stats as an argument against Adam Fox. 10/10 would have such an idea again.

Honestly let's just appreciate how good NYI's dmen are. Even Toews who is on Colorado now. God damn.

You can go year by year and find players who are incredible for a few seasons and then average out

If he keeps playing this way for another season against the entire league, like McAvoy has, ill be willing to consider it

hes not even 200 games into his career (two full seasons plus playoffs)

So are you suggesting he’s a fluke? What would be the point to saying that otherwise?

Being a #1 defenseman. If you want to judge defenseman by purely points you can do that.

McAvoy actually outscored Fox at 5v5, this year and last year. Fox is incredible on the PP though, I won't take that away from him. But that's the main difference in scoring between the two, Fox gets double the PP time and gets #1 pp minutes on the Rangers, McAvoy doesn't.

Fox isn’t incredible on the PP. He’s had a good two weeks on it, mostly because Zibanejad can now release the puck cleanly off his stick again. The PP is the worst part of Fox’s game.

Just like last year when Shesterykin should've won the Vezina off of 12 games and was about to be the next Hasek, right?...

Who said he should win the Vezina last season? Also is Shestyorkin not having a very good season? He’s top 10 in just about any goalie category that matters, and those ahead of him this season in the Vezina race are all on much better teams. He’s likely not in the Vezina race this season, but probably will be next season and he’s been really good in his first full season.

17 of his 29 points are on the PP. He's pretty damn good on the PP. Only trails Hedman for defenseman PP scoring.

Maybe statistically, but he didn’t play PP1 until DeAngelo got waived because DeAngelo ran it better. He wasn’t even that great on PP2. Now he’s on PP1 due to necessity, and until Zibanejad has started to put the puck in the net, the PP was much worse this season. Reason 1 was Zibanejad, but the secondary reason was that DeAngelo quickened the pace of it. Fox slows it down. Fox may not be bad on the PP, but I think it’s the worst part of his game.

The fact that the two NYI defenseman are 2 and 3 in the league strongly suggests there are major entanglement issues with that model.

Well, it's not me who brought that stat up by quoting that twitter account. Although I'm sure Fox performs amazingly, whatever the model.

We can instead use something like points. Fox 30 McAvoy 21.
