Ott
Pulkkinen(IR)
Franzen(IR)
Vitale(IR)

Dekeyser-Green
Kronwall-Ericsson
Smith-Marchenko
Ouellet

Mrazek

Sproul lost on waivers.

This is not my ideal line-up, but what does it matter?

Kind of no-brainer lines before a possible Tatar trade.

Solid offensive TOP9 and a strong 4th line.

Zeta - Larkin - Abdelkader
Vanek - Nielsen - Nyquist
Tatar - Athanasiou - Mantha
Helm - Glendening - Sheahan

Spare part line:
(Miller - Ott - Jurco)

LTIR line:
(Franzen - Vitale - Pulkkinen)

Also, if Nielsen line will become somewhat defensive play leader, I could see it this way:

Offensive zone lines:
Zeta - Larkin - Vanek
Tatar - Athanasiou - Mantha
(if Tatar is traded, slot Nyquist in here)

Defensive Zone lines:
Abdelkader - Nielsen - Nyquist
(if Tatar is traded, slot Helm/Sheahan in here and put one of Ott/Miller/Jurco on the Glendening line)
Sheahan - Glendening - Helm

Lots of counter-attack power on these two defensive zone lines.

Yeah, I don't see us carrying 6 defenseman and 15 forwards.

Mantha is almost assuredly in GR to start the year. Even if he scored 5 goals a game in preseason.

I don't really care how many forwards we will carry, because we don't even know who are healthy in October. If Tatar is traded, there's a slot for Mantha. If he is not traded, Ott will get waived because there's no risk to lose a guy like him.

I'd be comfortable betting $100 that Ott will not get waived at any point in the season.

To start the season I'm anticipating:

Larkin - Zetterberg - Abdelkader
Tatar - Nielsen - Vanek
Nyquist - Sheahan - Helm
Ott - Glendening - Miller

Well I think Ott will spend some time in Grand Rapids so I think you'll be wrong.

Yeah the Wings didn't sing Ott to play in GR.

Yeah the Wings didn't sing Ott to play in GR.

His contract is bury-able, he sucks - no one would claim him, and he's been available 2 of the last 4 seasons due to injury.

Steve Ott isn't Dan Cleary.

I have no doubt in my mind that Ott is gonna be in the the press box(more likely) or AHL on opening night. Bookmark it.

If Mantha or AA light up preseason and are both in GR to start the season, we can all riot together.

Tie goes to the vet. Doesn't require waivers for the helpful players.

Didn't AA light up the preseason last year and end up in GR?

Yes, of course.

Detroit needed a vet.

The the seasoned vets who played in front of AA opening night last season:
Pulkky
Ferraro
Franzen - who was definitely getting the nod

Jurco subbed in for Franzen in the fourth game
Helm came back from injury and Andersson slotted in for Jurco/Ferraro 5th game. Finally a player that shouldn't be there. But in the next game he sat for Ferraro. Brad Richards got hurt that game and Andy subbed in for him in the next game.
Jurco replaced Ferraro that was the lineup until AA got his call up on November 8th. Then Pavel Datsyuk came back 2 games later and replaced... Andersson.
AA was sent down after 6 games when Brad Richards returned from injury, 1G 0A even 1 GWG(the tough angle in the Mrazek vs Ovechkin shutout).

I really do think Nyquist will get traded for a D, I'm not convinced it will be a top 2, maybe just a top 4.

I still think Holland makes a trade. If it's not Nyquist/Tatar for Defense, then just Jurco for a pick or something.

Pretty sure he put up more points than Larkin IIRC. And for some (me at least) he was more impressive.

So guys who couldn't be sent down for free basically.

Yeah this is pretty much the lineup that i'm thinking as well, Though sometime in the season i could see both Zetterberg and Larkin switching positions.

I think a Vanek-Larkin-Nyquist line could work very well. Hope to see it tried at some point.

On paper, a trade of Tatar + Sheahan for Fowler would help both teams. If that happened, I'd let Helm and his fat contract center the two kids, and have combos like this:

Zetterberg - Larkin - Nyquist
Abdelkader - Nielsen - Vanek
AA - Helm - Mantha
Miller - Glendenning - Ott

Fowler - DeKeyser
Green - Kronwall
Marchenko - Smith / Ericsson

Yes, and AA was #1 Star his last 2 preseason games in Pittsburgh and Toronto and still got sent to GR.
