and orpik is far from a leader. he's a little b*&^& that throws teammates under the bus, and never took accountability for his own actions

Indeed. So the Caps are still character-less. They never addressed that problem. They could beat us, but I don't see them.winning the Cup. Too much.history of losing within that core and they just added someone from another losing culture.

I'd love to think GMJR has big plans for our 1st Rd Pick this year, but who would he be saving it for at this point? If some of the things we've heard lately are tru then Maatta isn't being considered a trade chip anymore so a Duchene/Kane move doesn't seem likely.

Kirk you're scaring me. They better not trade Guentzel. I feel like trading sprong will be a very big mistake as well..

Missed opportunity for ShatonKirk jokes.

So hfboards isn't going to survive the TDL, is it? Any rules about posting tweets like the code and a text version of the tweet with it in case that craps out as well?

Good pickup for the Caps

Just thinking out loud......If we give up those picks we are pretty much done for the TDL.

I think we need more pieces then 1 Shattenkirk. He would have been nice but we will be fine if healthy with a few more pieces

Forgot someone

Carlson, Alzner, Shatty, Nisky, Orpik, Orlov

Gonna need some more firepower for that . . .

One of Guentzel/Sprong is acceptable. Which one? I go back and forth. Hard to tell at this stage.

I'd trade 3 pieces Maatta, Jarry, G/S. If it was a 1st instead of Guentzel or Sprong it's a no brainer but from what you've mentioned doesn't seem like the case.

Meh that's an expensive price and I'm glad it was Washington and not us that paid it. Shattenkirk would have been cool, but certainly not needed and if I'm trading a 1st it needs to fill a clear need on a rental or a longer term solution.

Forgot Alzner ;)

Does this guarantee the Capitals the Cup? Of course not. But it makes them stacked at every position, and essentially replaces Mike Weber from the team we beat with one of the best defencemen in the NHL.

Just means we have to get in the saddle and respond. This team needs to be firing on all cylinders and we have weak links. Let's go JR!

I'm probably one of the few but I'm glad we didn't pay that price, the prospect was a second round pick a couple years back so it's basically a 1st and 2 seconds

So that's the equivalent of 1st + 2nd + Sprong/Guentzel. Do people honestly think that's not a huge price for a rental who reportedly has his UFA spot picked?

I think the Caps improved but Shattenkirk seems like more of a luxury than a need. Their PP is already very good and he's nothing to write home about defensively.

Sounds like it never got close between Penguins and Blues regarding a Shattenkirk deal. High price kept Pittsburgh out of it.

Well that was predictable. I figured JR was willing to be in the discussion....to a point. But we're not desperate, and they are.

Count me as another one who is non plussed by the Caps getting him. They were already damn good. This is just overkill at this point. And a very similarly deep Caps team still couldn't get it done last year. Theyre even deeper this year, yeah, but they still have to face the Rangers, ourselves and/or a young, hungry Jackets team. Nothing is guaranteed, and the best roster doesn't always get it done. I'm not saying they won't be good, but I don't know if Shattenkirk will be the difference for them

I don't see how Sanford is remotely close to Sprong or Guentzel.
