Since I've failed at copying posts from the old thread ...

Regarding Di Pauli:

Theres this though

Regarding Vesey:

I stand corrected perhaps?

They still could've already told the Pens no though...

As terrible as our freebie guys have gone - the youth movement here has to excite these young free agents. Sully is committed to playing young guys and taking the leashes off of them.

How have our freebie guys gone terrible? The freebie guys that have played for us since 2013 (that the Pens signed) include Lovejoy, Sheary, Letestu, Farnham, Megna, Sill, Plotnikov and Gibbons. I really don't see how those have gone "terribly". The only freebie guys that have gone terribly are guys like Hartzell and Payerl, guys who could barely even crack the AHL. In reality, free prospects are rarely good prospects, which is why you see everyone freaking out about a 2nd round pick quality prospect in Vesey.

Caps must REALLY hate us if we do indeed sign their prospect haha. Take their playoffs and players from them. THANKS! Would be awesome getting Vesey and shipping off Kunitz to make room aswell. Did I read correct Vesey and DiPauli were teammates? then one of Veseys agents played with our coach, aswell as one of his other agents coaches the WBS team. Things are coming up Millhouse hopefully.

I don't believe the bolded is correct. DiPauli and Rust were teammates [on second thought...were they??? {yes, yes they were}]. DiPauli and Vesey share the same agent.

I think vesey signing here would have been very likely if it werent for the pp issue. Hes looking to maximize his production and despite potentially playing with Sid/Geno no PP will be a disadvantage.

He'll be 2nd pp though and we actually use the 2nd unit for 40-50 seconds per pp it seems.

I'm sure he could crack the top unit if he's actually good around the net.

Rust certainly will be in his ear regarding opportunities for kids to shine and be featured if earned here.

Honestly, with how inexplicably bad the PP can be and how this team gets injured I wouldn't rule out good PP time over a season. He probably takes it as no PP1 time, though.

Maybe, maybe not.

XXXX - Bonino - Hornqvist/Kunitz (one of those two will be on the PPs)
Dumo/Maatta - Schultz

Sheary, Wilson, Vesey, are all going to vying for those minutes. Not to mention that we also have Hagelin, Kuhnhackl and Rust who could push for PP time.

There's no guarantee that anyone outside of Bonino and likely Schultz is going to get #2PP minutes. Realistically, he's battling Sheary, but there's no way anyone could say with any certainty who of the kids will get PP time while this team is healthy. As for when injuries hit, perhaps. But again, with some of the different depth we have, the odds are not good on him ever seeing #1PP time.

There's no way he jumps Horny and Kunitz in front of the net. There's a better chance he's off both PPs than that he's on the 1st if we're healthy.

No one should be guaranteed a spot. But he has to know that unlike prior years he would get a fair opportunity and a long look. On the power play and in general.

The "must play top PP" thing, if true, is something that I find incredibly off putting. I guess if you have teams beating down your door though, you can say things like that.

whether he's saying it or not, if you're him why wouldn't you want to go to a team that at least has a possible opening on the top PP. He has to know he simply has no chance to jump over Sid, Geno, Kessel or Horny/Kunitz.

Not only were Rust and DiPauli teammates for Notre Dame, they also play a very similar style, they're almost the same size and they had similar college progressions (exploding offensively in their junior season). From what I've read, DiPauli is basically a center version of Rust, which would be a really nice add for the Pens bottom-6 if he pans out.

2nd pptime though he definitely has a shot

He doesn't have a shot on Chicago

Even if the Pens don't sign Vesey, I'm very proud and happy about JR right now. Obviously I don't know what is going on behind the scenes, but he wants young/fast to be our identity. I obviously don't love keeping MAF as a 5m backup, but you can tell JR isn't going to sit around this year and just hope. Dude is legit about getting another championship.

Not much time left for speculation at least. He should sign sometime tomorrow. It isnt the most exciting thing but atleast this whole vesey thing has given us something to talk about.

I'm not really commenting on where I think he goes, just that I would understand why he would prefer somewhere with some chance of making the top unit. I'm sure it's not the only thing that matters to him, but I would be surprised if it isn't a factor he considers.
