Its at the point where even if they come back we have nothing to really sweat. It would just be nice though to get it done formally and aim for KC.

But honestly, finishing ahead of KC is only relevant if the Jays meet KC in the ALCS.

It's a nice minor goal, but hardly an important one.

It also means that you get the wildcard winner, who will only be able to use their ace in one of the five games (while we get Price twice).

An extra game at home and especially away from massive pitcher's park Kauffman in the cold. It's a pretty big difference.

It also gets us the WC team which I think is extremely relevant considering you get away from a teams best pitcher, and the WC race is close enough that we could see a 3 way tie for that final spot, which could result in a team using it's best pitcher Monday in a tiebreaker, 2nd best pitcher Tuesday in another tiebreaker, 3rd best pitcher Wednesday in the WC game, and then if they win their 4th best pitcher could be facing us game 1. Then we get to face their 5th best guy in game 2

Long odds that that happens, but even if it doesn't facing the WC team is a pitching advantage, since usually their best pitcher would already be used, we'd only face them once.

It'd be nice to go into a series against a wildcard winner who has already used their ace.

Fair enough, I suppose. That is, if you assume that the best pitcher to win the wild card game is the same one that they might want to use twice against the Jays.

In any event, all the Jays need to do is keep winning.

Tanaka for the Yanks and Keuchel for the Astros? Fairly safe assumption they want to use those guys twice.
