The sad thing about it is USA Hockey actually didn’t have that much of a choice. It was turned down by so many players that it had to go outside the NHL – really, really far outside the NHL in some cases – in order to put a team together for the tournament. And until American players start taking the opportunity to play in this event seriously, they’re going to get fairly predictable results.

Great pass, but idk if it's just cause it's an exhibition game against Austria, but he doesn't look interested at all right now
That's what he looks like when he plays.
It's going to be a lot of this with both Eichel and Renhart. Guys that know where to be already and dictate play...after decades of no talent hard compete guys with no hockey sense people will mistake that for lazy or uninterested. You know why it looks like Ellis and Kaltea play harder than everyone else? Because they have to...they aren't very good. We've forgotten what good players look like
To be honest, nobody but Euros really care about the WCs. It's at a terrible time for NHLers (ie US and Canadians). You're either out of the playoffs, which mean you had a crap year and it's finally over, or you just got knocked out of the playoffs in the 1st round, would you really want to go play more. A lot of these guys are happy it's finally the offseason, and don't want to commit to another month or 2 to playing. That's a month or 2 less of vacation time for them. And as mentioned, how many people (North Americans) really care about the WCs? Can you name the last 5 teams that won it without looking it up?

I agree. Still, I have to mention that Eichel does have some issues with commitment to defensive responsibilities that Reinhart doesn't. Eichel was a good defensive player at BU with the talent and hockey sense to be an elite defender, in time, at the next level, but he definitely is not yet consistent with his responsibilities. Not much of a criticism for someone his age really but given the subject it's fair to mention.
I would note that along with consistency, his defensive game needs more engaged play. Often in BU games he would be in position conservatively and would wait to see what the offensive player would do. With his athleticism he should take away time and space far more quickly than he did. A very fixable issue in my opinion. Urgency is easier to teach and learn than awareness, which he shows.
It's stuff like this that makes me feel he would be best served on the wing as a rookie.
This tournament is a chance for the guys to get away, play hockey for the fun of it and get as drunk as they can. Dont look too much into results during this span.
