It's largely meaningless without context. You can't really look at a plus minus rating absent any other information and make a good judgment. If you're looking at a rating relative to players on the same team, it tends to be pretty consistent with what is happening in reality.

In this case, the stats line up with the eye test. Doan and Chipchura have been awful, and that line has generated almost nothing.

You can add Vermette to that list also.

Absolutely - He is currently the most talked about player in the NHL and for good reason.

His ten minutes may end soon, but he is at present the most exciting.

I thought he meant overall, but if hbk means the first four games, Domi is right up there.

Who said Duclair was benched? DT started to change the lines when things weren't going well and he may have missed a shift.

Duclair was benched, because he played 5 minutes the first half of the entire game. Then, on his first shift of the 2nd. period, 10 minutes into the second period, he generated a beautiful give and go scoring chance with Domi, and buried the puck.

His reward? 7 minutes for the second half of the game.

You have a answer for everything. You should be a politician.

He played over 15 minutes which is pretty damn good. Most were saying they would be happy with Domi and Duclair getting twelve minutes and were worried about them getting less than ten.

Every time he tries to Turris Duclair he makes him look stupid by scoring a goal when none of his favories are. I love it. Let's face it. The young players will have to be head and shoulders above the vets to get minutes. That's the way it will be this season. Just being better isn't enough. They have to embarrass the other guys. So far, that's exactly what they've done. I have no doubt that any of Perlini, Dvorak or Strome would be performing better than some of the vets on the roster which is why I hated most of the off season moves so much.

Exactly, can't complain about his minutes or Domi's.

Also, we were trailing the whole game. Why wouldn't you give the most time to the offensive threats? We weren't protecting a lead.

Perlini/Dvorak/Stone were not ready. We are seeing the results of waiting to play Domi when he was ready, Duclair also, who was up for a while in NYC last year. Give Tip/DM some credit in that they want these guys to be top 6 forward worthy when they enter the NHL, exactly what we are seeing with Domi/Duclair. Reider was ready early in the season last year and look at the results we are seeing from him now. They didn't rush anybody, it works.

All the complaining about Runblad/Gormley not playing, being treated unfairly, was all not fair to DM/Tip in retrospect. Gormley couldn't crack Colorado's starting D and Chicago was looking at PTO's from several journeyman D to replace Runblad.

What? I just checked the stat sheet at NHL.com and Domi was at 18 minutes, Duclair 15 minutes.

I don't think you can compare TOI for centremen with wingers, given that there are only four, and only 3 last night w/ Vermette leaving. And really only half of the group (Vermette and Hanzal) are offensive Cs. Comparing TOI for Domi and Duclair with the likes of Boedker, Doan, etc. makes more sense.

Edit: Even-strength TOI would be an even better comparison, since guys like Boedker and Martinook get PK time.

Is it not possible that Tippett is a smart coach that has the pulse of his players. He might be using ice time to motivate his young players. Maybe he just knows how to light a fire under Duke and an occasional seat is the way to do it? Or the other possibility is that a well regarded NHL coach is just not as smart about hockey as a guy sitting on his couch.

And this gem of a coach, what is his winning percentage over the last three years? Dead last among all active coaches? Yep.

But at least he's not Gretzky, right? Nobody could be worse than Gretzky.

Oh wait...

Dave Tippett's last 212 games with the Coyotes; 82-98-32 = 196 points.

Wayne Gretzky's last 212 games with the Coyotes; 92-103-17 = 201 points.

(Doesn't include last four games)
