Haven't heard much of these names outside of Reinhart, Ekblad, Virtanen, and Ho-Sang who I didn't think was draft eligible this year. I'm just going to assume it's a much weaker class than 2013?

If Virtanen stays there most of this season for whatever reason, I'd love to get him with our round 1 pick.

EDIT: Just realized it was a Button list as my hopes fade into the distance.

Surprised not to see Joshua Ho-Sang in the top 30.

He seems to be dropping like a rock at the moment. I read something about character issues. But I have not followed him in depth, so some else will probably be able to shed more light on it.

I would have liked to see Nikolaj Ehlers on there. But I'm not surprised, I'm positive he'll rise throughout the year though.

I'd say its a pretty poor list when compared to the consensus at this point.

Seems to favour Sweden and a bunch of smaller forwards.

I can't see dal Colle, McCann and Clarke being available where they are on this list, they are almost universally thought of as top 10's. I realize a lot can change, but those 3 guys won't be available past 10 IMO, same with Virtanen.

There is potential Canucks go deep in playoffs this year and are no doubt a contender, just not a favourite. Look for Canucks to pick in 20-25 range next year. I also see them choosing a defenceman, unless very good forward prospect slides. Based on developmental patterns 20-25 pick defenceman probably take 2-4 years to make NHL which would be inline with players like Bieksa and Hamhuis being on downturn of career/contract expiring.

I doubt Virtanen stays that low, he was playing more of a checking role last season on the Hitmen. He'll have a much bigger offensive role this season.

Nikolaj Ehlers would be a solid pick at 20-25, Ho-Sang would be interesting as he'd have to be this years Shinkaruk.

Need to go through a good chunk of the season to see how our new prospects are progressing and what sort of needs there may be on the big club. Who knows, if the current kids perform as advertised, I may even be open to a D man.

One thing the 2013 draft hammered home for me was just how much of a factor teams’ needs, or perceived needs 2 years down the road, influence 1st round selections, even very early on (e.g. Barkov). Elsewhere:

Philly draft board – outrageously overvaluing anyBODY with a “D” next to position

Winnipeg – reaching for the most talented LH D available and size being no issue given current D make up

Old Adams division – size arms race in full swing (Ristolainen, Zadorov, Gauthier, McCarron) with everybody furiously beefing up to deal with Boston

Calgary – passing on Shinkaruk, likely on account of already having a good crop of highly skilled, smallish left wingers (Bartchii, Gudreau?) in the system

Nucks – snagging Shink, having had their fill of size the last 2 years and taking a 211 pounder with the 9th.

Speaks to the importance of understanding our, and especially others, needs when gaging sliders and making prognostications.

Not a big fan of Ho-Sang, the game is very minor hockeyish (do it all himself). Talented to be sure, but not sure he's a player.

All I know, is I'm extremely impressed with the Ontario 1996 birth year + the 95's available (Clark, Mistele, Goldobin) are also top end prospects.

I've said it for months, I think our first pick will be from Ontario. I'd love it to be a forward too.

I don't think Morrissey was a reach and I don't think Shinkaruk was a pick based on need....clear BPA.

Either way, hoping for a forward. Hoping for lots of forwards actually, we took 4 dmen this year.

I don't think Morrissey was a reach based on positional need. With Byfuglien, Enstrom, Bogosian, and Trouba they have a very solid D core moving forward.

Personally I had Morrissey as the 4th best defenseman in the draft. I'm not surprised a team fell in love with him, given he has tremendous upside.

Haven't seen really any of these guys play yet, but from everything I've read about him, EHLers is very intriguing

Nikolaj Ehlers would be a solid pick at 20-25, Ho-Sang would be interesting as he'd have to be this years Shinkaruk.

I would be surprised if Ehlers is there at 20. I think he's a better prospect than Jensen at the same age.

I don't think you can compare Ho-Sang with Shinkaruk. Shinkaruk was ranked around 10-ish at the draft. Ho-Sang is already being ranked at the end of the first.

man... how badly do the Canucks need a prospect like Aaron Ekblad right now? He is the perfect need for us.

Expect Jake Virtanen to jump in the rankings throughout the year.

#1 Overall Pick in the 2010 Bantam Draft, exceptional vision and puck control and has a great nose for the net.

So what happens to the draft order of a team who wins the division? Is it like previous years where the winners will pick somewhere along 25thish or is it based on who gets knocked out of the playoffs first?

Is this draft stronger or weaker than the 2013 one?

It appears to be weaker...
Because I have heard that Reinhart would only be...
About a top 5 in last year's draft.
