Some Islander fans think something around Bailey for Franson could work.

Bailey is a center who could compete for a bottom 6 position.

I suggested this in the Grabo/Kule signing thread, but with the recent signings of Santo/Bodie/Kontiola in addition to bringing back Komarov and Frattin along with fitting in Holland and Ashton (and Orr?) I guess our bottom 6 is pretty full

Sounds good to me

There is always a need to get rid of Franson

Would rather have Franson as a PP specialist and have him nowhere near the top 4. If only relied upon for 12 minutes a night against bottom six players he's fine. Carlyle has given him too much ice time and responsibility in the past, and if he's re-signed that will have to change.

Not must interest in Bailey. Paid 3.3M a season and that is way too much for what he brings to the table.

I want Franson gone but would rather get a pick or even would rather waive him.

Josh Bailey is a decent player and a decent(ish) contract.

The problem that I see with taking on that type of contract is not having enough space to sign both Kadri and Bernier next year. I know it doesn't seem like an issue now, but the 22 mill in cap space that they have next year will turn into 12 after 3 contracts (Bernier at 5+ & Kadri at 3.5+, Bailey at 3.3).

If I were the Leafs, I would be asking for a B level prospect and a pick in 2016. Something along the lines of Scott Mayfield and a 2016 conditional 3rd pick.

The problem is going to be his contract, which will pay him more then a bottom pairing PP specialist.

I agree, he is a good bottom pairing guy. But hes going to get 4m at least I'd say. Too much!

If that's the case then you run away screaming. Would suck to lose him for nothing, but as it stands I don't think you're getting anything of significance for him. If he was a hot commodity he would have been traded at the draft. NHL scouts watched him this year and I'm sure they didn't have glowing reports on him.

His point shot is his biggest asset, but how many times last season did we see him pass up the direct shot on net for the intentional wide shot? I know teammates hate the high point shots but top of the net is where you score. If he gets 4 you run away.

If Franson is traded and a defenseman isn't coming back I could see Nonis signing another depth defenseman to give the Marlies defensemen a bit more time. A guy like Morris or Sarich could provide some solid bottom pairing minutes on a cheap 1 year deal. Granberg and Holzer would be ready to go for injury call ups.

I still think Franson is being shopped for a Top 4 defender who can be paired with Phaneuf.

That would really settle the defensive pairings since the vision was allegedly to pair Gorges with Dion and have Rielly with one of Robidas or Polak and Gardiner with the other.

What is your reasoning for thinking the Leafs would do this?

A middle of the first round pick and scraps for one of the top offensive players in the world and our best Dman(even if he is over paid)

With Kessel + Dion on the CBJ, that pick would probably be 25-30...

I'm thinking the same.

Trevor Daley maybe? His foot speed alongside Phaneuf would be awesome

Considering Montreal didn't even think he was good enough to play in their top 4, I'm glad that trade didn't go through.

I've always wanted Daley. Lupul would round out the Stars top six nicely...not sure how the Leafs would replace Lupul's 25 goals though.
