Nothing is a guarantee and with the new lottery rules, it gives #29 and even #28 a solid chance at the 1st overall.

Picking 30th guarantees them Eichel at worst. That's a win. If they finish 29th they could have potentially ended up drafting 3rd.

About the trade, I think that Buf wins the trade on the short term but the long term is all for Wpg. It's basically Myers for Bogo, and Kane for Armia, Lem and the 1st. Armia is the only one of the three pieces coming back that has the potential to replace the 20-30 goals left by Kane.

i'm trying to apply this trade as if it was us who did it and not buffalo.

kuli (myers), grimaldi, hawrlyuk, (armia, lemieux), boyes (stafford), our 2nd (late 1st). is that about right?

I don't like Kane, but i think Buffalo probably are the more likely winners.

They got two young decent roster players with upside. Meanwhile, they gave up a late 1st, a 3rd line prospect and the difficult to peg Armia. Stafford isn't really worth much, and Myers/Bogosian is comparable.

Winnipeg won this. Armia+Lemiuex+a 1st. For a guy everyone knew was going to be traded. On the flip side I am not sure why Myers was traded for. Bogosian is better defensively and they all ready have 2 offensive dman in Buff and Enstrom. So adding another offensive dman and giving up a defensive one I am not sure if that makes sense for them.

IMO Buffalo gave up too many futures for a guy that may or may not mesh in that locker room.

Depending on the type of offensive dman, it may not matter. Like Lidstrom and Stevens were pretty perfect for their goalies, obviously opposite styles.

They were both defensive stalwarts. Myers, Buff or Enstrom aren't really there.
