Waterloo has announced the addition of Matt Kennedy (Syracuse, AHL/Fort Wayne, ECHL). Kennedy is a former captain of Guelph (OHL) and a 5th rd pick of the Carolina Hurricanes. Kennedy enrolled last season and practiced with this team while he served his redshirt season, so he's eligible to play right away. Should be a huge addition for the Warriors.

Another solid recruit, to go along with their top notch players/recruits like Behenna, Larson, Lorentz, Chappell, Moffat, Underwood etc.

The interview was impressive as well. His program (5 Year Business - Accounting) is demanding, and for accounting, is likely the strongest in the country. In the national accounting exam, Waterloo typically lands more people on the honour roll by itself than the total of all schools in most provinces.

Kennedy is an extremely smart guy who - despite getting very good grades in year 1 - almost decided to leave the program because he wasn't sure it was the right fit for him. He ultimately decided that he wanted to continue, and the Warriors will be benefactors of his decision on the ice.

14 - are you kidding me? That's more than 1/2 the team. Are all of them expect to play?

Who isn't coming back this year? They must be losing quite a few guys if they recruited that many??

Among the forwards not returning are grads Derek Hulak (AHL), Brennan Bosch, Andrew Bailey and Kenton Dulle, plus Ryan McDonald, Cody Smuk (who is battling cancer) and Finnish exchange student Janne Kelahaara.

The Dogs have only 6 returning forwards at this point in Craig McCallum, Jesse Ross, Matt Spafford, Josh Roach, Jon Lawrence and Sean Aschim. Brother Kyle Aschim is moving up to F from D.

Scoring could very well be an issue this season as a handful of hopeful recruits from the WHL all signed in the off-season, including a pair who headed to Europe.

Graduating D-men are Cody Hobbs, Garrett Thiessen and Brett Ward.
Their third-string goalie Matt Smidt is also not back.
That leaves a strong contingent in the back end with incumbents Matt Delahey, Kendall McFaull, Zak Stebner, Connor Cox, Chad Suer joined by former Victoria Royals captain and Ottawa Senators draft pick Jordan Fransoo, former Dal and Tri-City D-man Brett Plouffe and former Prince George captain Jesse Forsberg.
You can expect former junior A players David Stumborg, Tyler Borstmayer and Brandon Kuse to add depth and be groomed for future consideration.

That is a major turnover. It makes it hard to handicap the season race. I wish there were some exhibition games this weekend.

David Shantz, former 2'nd round pick of Florida (#37) to UNB. He is the second former pro headed to the Army. Both Shantz and Carrozi will have 1-2 years CIS eligibility left, as they have both ECHL and limited AHL exposure. Two new goaltenders. Both played CHL with Mississauga St Mikes.

I had no idea that Janne Kelahaara was an exchange student. That explains how the Huskies managed to "recruit" a European. I was hoping he'd be back this year as I was hoping he'd add a different style of play to the Dogs.

Ryerson has taken a big hit with the loss of leading scorer Jamie Wise. Wise (son of Rams Coach Graham Wise) will be getting his second NHL tryout with the Blackhawks, at this weekend's rookie camp being hosted by the Leafs in London, Ont.

If not invited to main camp or AHL Rockford camp, he has a contract in the Central Hockey league and will not be returning to the Rams.

Also heard that Rams recruit Dylan Smoskowitz has de-committed from the team.

Seems strange to leave school for a CHL contract - for a player of his ability, you'd have to think a CHL gig would be there for him post-graduation.

Some players feel the same about going to school. Players only have a few years of optimal athletic ability so you have to take the game as far as you can when you're young. You can go to school at any age.

More Rams news this morning:

In addition to Wise, Ryerson Athetics says new recruit D Keevin Cutting will also be attending a rookie tournament this weekend with the Florida Panthers

http://www.ryersonrams.ca/ViewArtic...14&DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=22300&ATCLID=209643193

That makes it 3 Rams players who have suited up in an NHL capacity since the spring, following Rams starting goaltender Troy Passingham's emergency back-up recall by the Leafs at the end of last season.

From what I've heard Academics played issue with Wise, Hermenglido

Current Ryerson defenceman Keevin Cutting, who transferred after playing last year at UNB, is attending Florida's rookie camp.

http://www.ryersonrams.ca/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=22300&ATCLID=209643193

There is no mention in the article about him having to sit out this year so I am assuming he was able to transfer without penalty.

Correct - Keevin received a compassionate transfer and is eligible to play right away. JP Labardo has to wait until next year as he left voluntarily (same for Maclise).
