I remember Gorges looked really good for Montreal when we played them in 2010. Plus it save us 1.1 million in cap space and you'd assume Gorges would look good with Letang. Also, age.

If we need to save $1.1 million in cap space then we have plenty of other places to lose salary. The downgrade from Martin to Gorges isn't worth it. I don't see any realistic scenario in which Martin is moved.

Pouliot will cost much much more than 2 mil. But he definitely fits what we need.

Do we even have the cap space to do all of that? Pouliot will likely be asking for $2.5 million, Malhotra likely $800,000, Moss likely $1.5 million and Kulemin likely $3 million. I can't see us being able to afford all of that. Though I love the lineup with all those players signed:

Kunitz-Crosby-Hornqvist
Kulemin-Malkin-Bennett
Pouliot-Sutter-Dupuis
Spaling-Malhotra-Moss

I'd be stoked on that. I think you could even slot Kulemin to the right side and have Pouliot move up. He looked good with Zucc and Brassard.

I'd expect Pouliot to get offers around $3-3.5M/yr, to be honest. That's more than I'd like to see the Pens give him.

Found this on Yahoo...

Benoit Pouliot, who has worked on five consecutive one-year contracts for five different teams after his initial three-year entry-level deal, will receive multiple offers for at least $9 million over three years - if not more, according to The New York Post's Larry Brooks.

At that price, no thanks.

What's up with Pouliot anyways? why can't he stick anywhere? He'll be on his 6th team in the last 6 years.

Radical amount of underachievement in his career. He should have been an established 2nd liner years ago, but he never has been.

It's been suggested his hockey sense is too low.

For those penciling in Moss and/or Malhotra, just a reminder that those rumors have come exclusively from TIOPS -- haven't seen it anywhere else yet.

Doesn't mean they won't happen or that the Pens aren't interested in them, but obviously it's not on the same level as Brooks reporting interest in Pouliot.

Question: Why do people not include Brian Gibbons in their projected line-ups? I would rate him slightly above Megna at this point.

I think that Megna could be a good 3rd line option. The guy has speed , can shoot and forecheck. He could be better version of Kennedy. + he doesn't cost alot. If Pouliot wants 3M, I prefer Megna

$3 million per for Pouliot? Never mind. **** that's way too expensive. I'm thinking he's our fallback option if Kulemin goes elsewhere.

I'd like Jay McClement if we're looking for a 4th line center. Great defensively, decent size/physicality, and one of the best PKers in the league. Coming off a deal where he had a 1.5m cap hit but he probably won't see a raise on that.

Spaling - Sutter - Dupuis
XXX - McClement - Megna

Good question. Pouliot plays 3LW (or 2LW, badly in his career to date) and we've got Spaling there right now. Doesn't seem to be an obvious need based on what the roster looks like at present. Even if he plays the right side...what's that purpose of having Pouliot, Moss AND Dupuis? I guess if Spaling plays center, but then what do you do with Sutter and possibly Malhotra?

I'm guessing Pouliot/Kulemin would be an either/or, not both.

My initial thought was would they really bring him in as a LW2 and/or the sort of 3rd tweener guy to compete with Bennett for that spot?

I've seen other stuff about Malhotra to the Penguins. It was in one of Spector's Hockey rumor posts. I'll try to find it. Moss is solely TIOPS though.

Edit: Found it from the Boston Globe. Sounds like just speculation though:

Malhotra to Pittsburgh?

As a rule, players regularly follow GMs. To that end, Manny Malhotra could be reunited with former Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford in Pittsburgh. The Penguins are desperate for bottom-six reinforcements to play important shifts when Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin need breathers. Malhotra would be a good fit in Pittsburgh as a fourth-line center, faceoff specialist, and penalty killer. The UFA-to-be won 59.4 percent of his faceoffs this past season in Carolina. Of Malhotra’s 11:35 of ice time per game, 1:38 took place on the PK. The Hurricanes took a chance on Malhotra after Vancouver, citing concerns regarding his vision, opted to let the veteran pivot go. Malhotra would be loyal to Rutherford if his ex-boss comes calling.

he's a UFA, and I would but my millions on him not being re-signed after the "Toughness, puck possession, grit" speeches from Tocchet and JR.

Megna is RFA. Gibbons is UFA and is one of the 11 mentioned by Rutherford that wasn't offered a new contract. He could still end up coming back, of course, but it's in doubt.

I've been advocating Pouliot here for over 2 months. The playoffs vs the Pens and his performance overall solidified the reasoning for bringing him in. He's a real good 3LW. It's nice to hear there is legit interest from our franchise.

This is not a FA crop that can give you much help in the top 6 but the bottom 6 can be greatly improved with this bunch.

I like Winnik for the 4LW as well.
