So to piggyback off of the previous discussion:

I think Kulemin - Malkin - Bennett would be one of the better lines in the league.

it is my understanding that he can, in fact, play center. I've often wondered, when I'm all alone by myself at night, if Spaling is actually here to replace Brand Sutter.

I think he's here to give the org options if Sutter won't play ball, or needs to be traded.

He can play center, but he didn't much last year. He took under 200 faceoffs, did fine (52.9%) but with that small sample size. Whenever I saw Nashville he was playing like a center though, playing down low in the O zone especially. He had an awesome setup from behind the net to Horns for a goal that's on youtube somewhere.

i like Benoît Pouliot and David Moss as third line targets. strong corsi players who have big bodies. they may not always use there size to dish out punishment but it helps them hold on to the puck.

Great 2 way line. Next year we better have lines other than Crosby's who can take D zone faceoffs to protect leads. I think you can send this Geno line out in any situation, and it should dominate possession and have tons of takeaways.

Interesting.

RRP.

Taking the attention away from Sid and Geno is paramount. But you can do that by bringing in players who can possess the puck and make things happen on their own. A big reason why Sid gets manhandled is b/c he's the only one on his line who is remotely dangerous as a puck carrier.

And by building a legit 4th line with edge that can impact a game, you help solve that as well. You don't need Komarov.

Interesting. Definitely a new name to look for. Guy certainly has the pedigree, but last year was the first that he was really worth a damn.

Just guessing here but it seems like it would be an either/or thing for Pouliot and Kulemin. One's value is over-inflated from a strong playoff run and the other should be more reasonable after a lousy season in terms of stats. So from that standpoint, I'd rather go with Kulemin as the better value.

I'm getting the impression JR wants to essentially have 2 third lines. Fans won't be happy if a big name player isn't signed, but having that kind of depth in the bottom 6 helps a lot come playoff time.

Wanted Pouliot here ever since he played with Montreal, wanted him to be Cooke's eventual replacement. Saw him go to Boston, Tampa Bay, and New York, if the price is good, come to Pittsburgh! I always thought he would be a good fit next to Sutter.

Wow. He'll cost like 1.8 or 2. So he would have to be 3rd line LW I guess? Are they setting up to trade Sutter or Dupuis here?

If we signed Pouliot, we'd have 4 third liners.

This is one of those scenarios where I hope Dupuis can be dumped. Pouliot is just a better fit for what the coaching staff want. And you'd likely save money on the cap. At the very least, a wash and a younger more creative player.

Good question. Pouliot plays 3LW (or 2LW, badly in his career to date) and we've got Spaling there right now. Doesn't seem to be an obvious need based on what the roster looks like at present. Even if he plays the right side...what's that purpose of having Pouliot, Moss AND Dupuis? I guess if Spaling plays center, but then what do you do with Sutter and possibly Malhotra?
