If they want a big man on the roster you gotta either;

A)Overpay for Clarkson or Bickell
B)Work out something with Clowe and hope he can stay healthy
C)Pray that Yogan is now NHL ready
D)Take on a reclamation project like Akim Aliu or Greg Neminz from Calgary and hope a change of scenery can get something out of them

After his 3 pts in 2 games to finish 2011-12 I'm sure they did, but he only managed 11 pts in the AHL this season and none during his 5 game call up. As a 24 year old, has to be considered a bust at this point IMO

Sometimes those big dudes take more time to develop. If the Flames let him go, I'd 100% add him to what should be a very young and stacked Hartford team. Clowe, Clarkson, Bryan Bickell, and Moulson are all examples of that.

It's funny because the Hawks look like geniuses for taking Brandon Saad when there was every bit of chance that Saad could have had a similar career as Aliu. His skating was criticized which is why he dropped to round two.

Sometimes you never know.

As for picks; the Rangers need to add more. Even if it's not top two, trade those depth guys like Asham/Pyatt/etc. to create contract spots, and add like 5th-7th round picks to swing for the fences with Russians, Swedes, Slovaks, etc.

It would be nice if the Rangers could get back into the first 2 rounds.

Even if they can't get a 1st, try for 2 seconds.

I don't see how they can without trading a first or second next year.

Other than that, to do this the only trade options would be

Staal-His value is at an all-time low though.

Boyle-MIGHT get you a late 2nd rounder at most.

Del Z-A second rounder and MAYBE a late first rounder at most.

No one else is getting traded will get you anything that high.

Well overpaid at 3.5 million. Guaranteed.

What are you basing this on? He was an effective player in the regular season, and his combo of size/speed is valuable when the intensity notches up in the playoffs.

I feel like you're saying this simply because he's slightly overachieved and he's going to fail because Pisani/Ward/etc failed to follow-up their great post-season runs. They're different players.

None of them are being traded but you're underrating them.
Staal- Worth any pick in the draft+ lower prospect

Boyle-Late 1st

Del Z- Any pick in the draft + lower prospect

Any pick in the draft for either MDZ or Staal? Surely you jest. Unless I'm reading it wrong, there is no way Staal or Del Zotto are worth MacKinnon, Barkov, Drouin or Jones.

I respectfully disagree and not trying to start a fight or anything.

With Staal, if the Rangers try and trade him other GMs are going to be skeptical with his eye injury and think the Rangers are trying to pull a fast one. They'll get low ball offers.

Boyle at the trade deadline can maybe get a low first but he had five points and a few good playoff games plus only one year left at 1.7 million. Not enough for a first rounder. Antropov can be signed for just as much and provide 3x as much offense.

Del Z-I just don't think teams are sold on his ability to score goals. He can be a 40 point player but he had a so-so season.
