omg enough of this insanity, colborne is not going to be playing center for the toronto maple leafs this year. His only shot is at 3rd line wing, and that is unlikely right now anyways. Then you think that clarkson is going to play shutdown? the guy was brought here to score 20 a year, hes playing with kadri and lupul, enough is enough with this

I'd like to see something like this:

Lupul - Kadri - Kessel
JVR - Bolland - Clarkson
Kulemin - Bozak - McClement
McLaren - Colborne - Orr

Phaneuf - Gunner
Gardiner - Franson
Rielly - Ranger

Overall I like the combos, not sure Ross will make it opening day, feels like he needs atleast a another full season, or atleast half a season in A, he needs more time. Bozie will probably play #1 though, I would think.

I have no issues with our defence either, a full year of Gardiner should make a positive impact...its a nice mix of potential internal development with a compliment of hard nosed acquisitions, good combination of size and skill.

Seems like a good mix to start the season.

Solid Top 9 forwards, and finally a legit 3rd line of skill, grit, strength and defensive awareness

Defence isnt bad but id rather have Fraser than Holzer. Fraser was exposed a bit in the Boston series, but thats more due to a team matchup in the playoffs. During the regular season, he is real solid on a 3rd pairing.

But the 4th line needs an upgrade. Probably from within... D'Amigo maybe?

I think there are upgrades there. If Bernier doesn't pan out, it'll hurt real bad because I always felt that Frattin could become something similar to Clarkson.

I really think Liles get traded to make room for the Franson and Gunnarsson contract raises. Maybe for a cheap winger to fill out the bottom 6 or maybe just a draft pick for capspace.

Leaves us with enough cap space to either get a slight upgrade on defence or hold onto it and get ready for the raises next year.

Its a risk worth taking IMO. I wish we could have kept Komarov. But this forward corp has gotten a whole lot better:

Lupul-Bozak-Kessel
JvR-Kadri-Clarkson
D'amigo-Bolland-Kuli
Mclaren-Mcclement-Orr

:naughty:

imo Nonis should look to aquire a shutdown right handed defenseman and a 4th line winger.

Really, really hoping Ranger will sign with the Leafs... would love if Liles was traded away and our bottom pairing was Rielly - Ranger with Brenner/Holzer the #7

Phaneuf - Gunnar
Gardiner - Franson
Rielly - Ranger
Brenner/Holzer

That's a pretty solid D, only thing I'd change is upgrading on Gunnarson, but I don't know of anybody available... this bottom 4 is above average to me with the top pairing being close to average

I like it. Haven't been able to contribute to any discussions today. But, if the lines click, its going to be a tough team to play against. I'm not really concerned with 7 years of Clarkson,

Lupul Bozak Kessel
JvR Kadri Kulemin
McClement Bolland Clarkson
Mclaren Colborne Orr

Phaneuf Gardiner
Gunnarson Franson
Liles Brennan
Holzer

Reimer/Bernier

A full season, let that first line fly again.
Second line is a great one IMO. Good combination of size, grit and shooting.
Third line, good luck scoring on them, and they have potential to put up points.
4th line... still kinda sucks haha, whatevs, they'll play like 7 mins a night.

Top d line, Gardiner has earned his place there I believe. He was their best defender in the playoffs, and he's still young and getting better.
3-4, Franson has a decent anchor and they can earn their keep.
5-6 is a mess, and needs work.

Reimer and Bernier will be interesting. Plantoon them until one is chosen for the playoffs.

My surprise pick to make the team on D out of camp:

Petter Granberg

He is exactly what we need, a big physical, stay at home D-man who plays the right side. Best kept secret in our prospect pool, who has been playing full time in the SEL and at the WC for Sweden, where he won a Gold medal.

Phaneuf-Gunnarsson
Gardiner-Franson
Rielly*-Granberg
Fraser

If Rielly isn't ready, Liles plugs in that spot in his place. Otherwise, I see Liles traded if Rielly makes the show.

Were only 600K over with this lineup and we may be able to get a couple of our free agents a tad cheaper.

This right here is 100% correct. For now anyways. Hopefully trade Liles though, bump up Franson and sign someone a bit cheaper.

A Bolland - Ross combo would drive opposing teams nuts. I would love to see Ross make it next year. However I see D'Amigo likely getting the open spot.

:help: You dont pay a player 5+ million to play defense, he was brought in to play in a top 6 role. This guy makes his living off of net presence whilst having good playmakers with him. Were going to be hearing "clarkson from kadri" a lot this year, book it.
