IMO Brassard will get the start the first game because of how he has been playing the last couple of weeks.

2 SO #1

1.89 GAA #3

.926% SAV% #3

8 W T-#1

Everybody credits Quebec's offense but if you watched the games, you know Brassard's play is a big reason why they're 9-1.

Huberdeau - MacKinnon - Drouin
Carrier - Danault - Dea
Tesink - Paquette - Hudon
Mantha - Andrews - Clap/Beauvillier/Henley

Ouellet - Fournier
Murphy - Culkin
Oligny - Melindy
Brouillard - Racine

Not sure on goalies. Marcoux will probably get a start.

Just spitballing

I'm not familiar with most of the players from the Quebec league, but I'll bet the coaching staff puts Hudon and Danault together.. they were good together during the Canada-Russia Challenge.

This is, no doubt, the strongest SSS team that Russia has ever sent. The only players who are missing are Slepyshev (injury), Buchnevich (probably too young) and Kucherov (recent injury).

I am very surprised, this is a near WJC ready team. As you a can see, there are very few players from jr leagues (MHL), mostly KHL and VHL (similiar to AHL).

For forwards, I would put:

Huberdeau - MacKinnon - Drouin
Carrier - Danault - Hudon
Tesink - Mantha - Dea
Andrews - Paquette - Beauvillier

And in nets, I like Fucale but its anyones guess.

Do you think Kucherov will be included later? He starts playing on Thursday.

I noticed that Ryan Culkin was not playing in Quebec's last game, is there an injury or somthing? If so how serious?

Martinaise, Revachol

Save for Binnington Spott is spliting the teams up and giving more players a chance to play. That's a good thing, not like what happens before with only a handful of new players in a game, most the same.

Damnit, I thought Galchenyuk could play in this.. oops!

Well he can, it's not like it will effect his national team elligibility. Probably knows most of the guys on the Russian team anyway.

Sweet Percy, Finn and Leivo for the Leafs

Also inexplicably Ryan Rupert, two assists his last nine games including six straight scoreless games, doesn't even have a goal and not exactly an established star. Really puzzling selection. Cameron Brace has him in goals 10-zip and has one less assist, pretty funny.

And now tell me which one would better fit a 4th line role.

Brace for sure, strong penalty killer with his tremendous speed and just a much better all around player. Won't agitate/cheap shot but I don't think being worse at everything else should get Rupert a spot. Have to wonder if a Leafs scout or something was involved with picking the teams, Rupert making it and Leivo and Percy both playing both games has to raise some eyebrows. No issues with Percy on both, Leivo playing both is highly questionable.

Who better than Ryan Rupert to follow Yakupov around all game.

Cameron Brace for one, better skater (Yakupov's tremendous speed could be a problem for Rupert) and they were two-three in the defensive forward category of the Western Conference Coaches Poll last year, Brace was two. Not trying to sound like a broken record but there is no justification for Rupert over Brace. Spots like these should be rewarded to kids having great seasons IMO.

You have no idea what I am referencing do you? Clearly you do not remember the time when Dale Hunter told Ryan Rupert to follow Nail the entire game. Rupert honestly did not do anything else but tail Nail all game long. The result? Knights won, Nail had no points. Did not look like Rupert had any issues keeping up with Nail.

I had no idea what you're referencing because it was an incorrect reference, it was Tyler Ferry tailing Yakupov. Knights season ticket holder, I was there. Big ouch. The strategy only worked so well because the refs let Ferry molest him every shift, holding, slashing, tripping could have been called almost every time Ferry was on the ice but he didn't get a penalty all game.

Rupert will bring a physical element/plays on the edge to the team, don't agree with the selection at all based on merit but both OHL teams look damn strong.

Leivo is one of the best two-way forwards in the OHL. His defensive awareness is excellent before you even get into offensive contribution.

Make a case against Rupert sure, but Leivo is where he belongs.

Touche, you are correct my bad. Oh well, Rupert can do the same thing right?
