NHL Entry Draft: 2012 Re-Draft

Absolutely terrible draft. So far there is no 1st line forwards from that draft, and there is no top pairing D men.

Obviously that can change with time.

I don't think that it was that bad of a draft but that's because it produced some quality depth. Obviously not the best draft but just because there is no superstars doesn't mean it is terrible.

1. Hampus Lindholm (ANA)
2. Morgan Rielly (TOR)
3. Filip Forsberg (NSH)
4. Alex Galchenyuk (MTL)
5. Olli Maatta (PIT)
6. Jacob Trouba (WPG)
7. Andrei Vasilevskiy (TBL)
8. Colton Parayko (STL)
9. Ryan Murray (CLB)
10. Tomas Hertl (SJS)
11. Teuvo Teravainen (CHI)
12. Matthew Dumba (MIN)
13. Damon Severson (NJD)
14. Zemgus Girgensons (BUF)
15. Derrick Pouliot (PIT)
16. Shayne Gostisbehere (PHI)
17. Nail Yakupov (EDM)
18. Frederick Andersen (ANA)
19. Slater Koekkoek (TBL)
20. Cody Ceci (OTT)
21. Matt Murray (PIT)
22. Tom Wilson (WSH)

That's as far as I will go. If that isn't ugly enough, it gets even worse and didn't feel like any other players were 1st round worthy. (Might have missed a couple)

Hate to say it, but I think B.Burke was right - or at the very least, pretty close to it.

Quite a few decent goalies in this draft - it seemed Dman loaded, and may still turn into a decent crop of Dmen once all get their NHL legs. But forwards were really, really lacking in this draft.

I would probably debate between Forsberg, Rielly and Lindholm - if I had 1st overall.

From what I hear from Sens fans, Ceci has progressed all that much...correct me if I'm wrong. Even with a bad draft it's reasonable to think he could go a couple sots after where he was drafted.

He's easily our 3rd best Dman. Sure he makes mistakes but all young dmen do.

And he has guys who cant even solitify a full time NHL job ahead of him. Or guys who had half of a good season. Ceci has been part of our core for like 2 years now..

No offense, Flyers defense sucks too, but thats not saying that much
a bottom pairing guy on a good team.

Think he's pretty much already reached his potential.
Could push him up to 19th. Thats about as high as I would go.

Like I said, gets real tough after the top 5. The difference between talent really isnt that much. Difference between 15th and 30th is minimal.

Debatable top 10? Maybe if you're a Sens homer. No way he's better than any of
Morgan Rielly
Hampus Lindholm
Filip Forsberg
Alex Galchenyuk
Jacob Trouba
Frederick Andersen
Olli Maatta
Shayne Gostisbehere
Teuvo Teravainen
Andrei Vasilevskiy
Ryan Murray

if you offered Ceci straight up for one of those 11 guys, that GM laughs hysterically and hangs up.

little too early to be calling a draft "terrible"... its been 3.5 years... geez lol. I find to accurately do one of these re-drafts it needs to be from 5-6 years ago... players are still getting their feet wet in this draft.

Gostisbehere could go up to 3rd by the end of next year. Guys like Murray, Parayko, Yakupov, etc. could also start to get going.

I'd pick Rielly first. Lindholm may be a little better now, but Rielly's potential trumps that of Lindholm's imo. Rielly could be a 50 point D man who doesn't look out of place in any scenario on the ice. Lindholm doesn't have the same offensive potential.

as a leafs fan who was disappointed we didn't get Galchenyuk. I can pleasantly say (as of now) we got the best player from this draft.

some of these guys I won't pretend to know a lot about but my top 10 who I would want, regardless of position need:

1. Morgan Rielly
2. Hampus Lindholm
3. Filip Forsberg
4. Alex Galchenyuk
5. Jacob Trouba
6. Olli Maata
7. Tomas Hertl
8. Ryan Murray
9. Nail Yakupov
10. Teuvo Teravainen

Lindholm has the potential to be a 40+ point guy who's also your top shutdown/matchup defenceman , to me that easily trumps a "50 point dman who doesn't look out of place in any scenario". Offensive potential is the only area in which I'd be willing to concede the leg up to Rielly, and that gap isn't nearly enough for me to consider him over the guy with the more rounded upside.

yup, i remember his comment something about Reilly being the best player and Burke got him and how everyone scoffed. he might be right when all is said and done.

Watch some Columbus games. As long as Murray stays healthy(is a concern) he'll be the best player to come from this draft.

Yet last summer CLB specifically targeted and drafted a defender in the 1st round, tried to move up for Hanifin, and recently traded their #1 centre for Seth Jones. It doesn't appear that CLB shares your opinion on Murray.

As I said health is a concern with him so maybe they wanted some depth
