Hall was like (should've been) the Hossa to Kane/Toews or Kessel to Crosby/Malkin for McDavid/Draisaitl.And young and in prime. I.e a core piece on a championship team. Edmonton might never get another winger as good as him in the McDavid era.

Yeah I know it's a dead horse but it's so bad this trade randomly invades my thoughts as I'm going about my day sometimes.

Honestly though how can Chiarelli still have a job after this? Anyone who follows hockey could see that this was a horrible trade. Ridiculous. Chiarelli is a ticking timebomb.

Yea it was brutal. Edmonton blew their chance to build a truly special team. Would've been on track to be the next Chicago/Pittsburgh of their era. They would've been better off if Chiarelli literally did nothing after getting there.

Chiarelli robbed the NHL of seeing the next great dynasty.

Funny how if you said that before, Oilers homers would call you a hater. Just took two years for them to realize that just because they are Oiler fans doesnt mean other fans can't be more knowledgeable about the Oilers than them.

In all fairness, was there a "1 year ago today..." thread for this trade last summer?

Because Hall's first year in NJ was horrible and a total disappointment.

Larsson's first season in EDM > Hall's first season in NJ

And what's not to say Hall won't regress to a 55 or 60 point season next year?

How many threads do we need on this? I can list worse trades in history.

The trade is downright comical. Theres no way to defend it. I don't care if Taylor Hall goes to jail for life next year it's still a bad trade because of the circumstances at the time of the trade. You knew it was brutal when it happened.

My Favorite memory from this was when the trade was announced by Bob Mckenzie he kept saying

"Just waiting to see what the package is going to edmonton with Larsson"
15 minutes past
"Still just waiting to see who else is going to edmonton with Larsson"
another 15 minutes past
Pierre McGuire interrupts and says apparently the deal is just 1 for 1
Everyone on the panel said "Nope that's a mistake, that impossible"
They keep waiting.

Like no one could believe it was 1 for 1.

This doesnt top forsberg for erat.

Forsberg is 23 and still improving while erat hasnt been in the league for years.

Larsson is still playing top4 D for edmonton.

Forsberg was a prospect though. Hall was a known commodity with elite/franchise winger potential who demonstrated it with an 80 point season in Edmonton.

And Larsson could just as easily be labeled a bottom 4 defenseman. He seems to be an average 2nd pairing defenseman to most people.
