How does this help the Leafs one bit? You just took out nearly a 110 points and acquired 0 points back. Trading for cap dumps and pick days are over.

JvR gets traded for players/prospects if we can't sign him to a good deal, and preferably to the western conference.

Teams like the Penguins, Capitals etc aren't going to remain great forever, you have to make moves to challenge them in the playoffs, not gift wrap your players and then go around and lose to them in the playoffs.

Yea true. Just floating an idea. Realistically i see leafs keeping them both till UFAs

Once MAF is gone, PIT doesn't have any cap dumps. Not that it would matter, because there's no way TOR makes that deal.

What happened to his offense this season? Seems he's had a big drop-off in production compared to the prior 3 season where he was scoring 15-20 goals and about 20 assists. This season he has a paltry 3 goals. Any specific injury or line-mate issues?

If we don't deal for Duchene we might as well re-sign Bones for zero assets rather than trading assets for guys who would be marginal upgrades at best.
