Watch the youtube videos and you will see Hughes looks to be the better talent. Hughes has a Dennis Savard move he uses to get around players. He's quick, his hands look really good but not on the magical level. It is hard to tell. He looks better than Nico in terms of talent but not that much better.

I'm all Hughes, but that's just because it's been driven into my head on these boards that he's a very special player and clear ahead of Kakko. In the end, I trust the Devils to get it right, just like they did in 2017 when I was in the Nolan Patrick camp and they took Hischier, I will be 100% on board if they take Kakko.

10 minutes into Jack Hughes highlights and I've yet to see a goal.

Compared to 20 straight minutes of Kaapo Kakko producing in a mens league no less...

I think this is a fair criticism. Hughes does not seem to have the same knack for goal scoring as Kakko. I'm also not yet sold on Hughes. Everyone seems to be comparing him to Kane, but Kane had 145 points in 58 games (2.5 ppg) in his draft year whereas Hughes had 86 points in 41 games (2.1 ppg). The key, though, is that Kane had 1.1 goals per game where Hughes had 0.6 goals per game. Kane scored goals at almost twice the clip of Hughes.

New Jersey(No Fanz!)
I also thought they'd get bumped down...maybe not to 6 but I didn't figure lotto luck would strike again. They're way overdue for some market correction so hopefully now they won't NEED the damn lotto for a long time after this.

I just hope this isn't a FULL rerun of 2017 where we're all convinced it's Hughes now and then gradually we warm to the idea of Kakko, cause I really do like Hughes and the fact he skates with Hall makes this seem all too perfect. Of course if Kakko is the right pick in the end that's fine but this one just seems more of a no-brainer at face value.

Well if you saw the post-lottery interview they had with Hughes, when he was told by Tappen about him joining the likes of Nico Hischier and Taylor Hall, he said that he and Taylor practiced together(skated together) before so he's very familiar with him.

Plus Ray knows him and his family.

Nah. I don't think we see another Nico situation.

Hughes is Jersey-bound.

It’s quite easy to see what Hughes needs to work on. His shot and face offs, he even said it himself. His playmaking will literally lead to so many tap in goals for our forwards starting next year. Just you watch.

If we don't take Hughes I will lose it. His skill and potential is Patrick Kane like. Kakko is great and I would have been thrilled with the 2nd pick. However, Hughes just has too much going for him. Like I said in the other thread the kid is; handsome, well spoken, incredibly skilled and an American on top of all that. This is the guy you build around on the ice and market a franchise around to fans off the ice. The hands on this kid are something else. Kakko might be filling the net while playing in a better league which also means he's got better linemates. Potential wise though he's just not Jack Hughes, simple as that.

Hopefully. I think Hughes is likely the best player in this draft, but This feels like another Nico/Nolan draft. No generational talent here making the choice more difficult than I'd like it to be. I have the utmost faith in our scouting department, though. I'll be happy with whoever they take. I just wouldn't expect Hughes to light the league on fire.

I’m just happy that the Devils have the choice of who they want to take. 2 top tier players.
