I'm confused then. What differentiates randomness from luck in an H2H league?

Edit: I'm going to bed, sorry if I overreacted, but I've had my share of bad beats in this league over the years. They happen, that's how H2H works (introduce more randomness/luck in exchange for a more exciting season through to the finish). Seeing someone else complain they should have won and straight up saying they are better just doesn't sit well with me.

i raaappppeeeeddddd in the consolation playoffs, where's my trophy

another huge goaltending performance from my guys in the consolation finals too, 7 wins in 7 starts im pretty sure, maybe it was 8. had to bench holtby and lehtonen most of the week cause all 4 of my goalies were playing on the same days.

having said that, will be looking to deal one of these goalie keepers to try and get picks or a better skater for a keeper, so PM me if you have early interest.

I guess on the bright side this may be Couture's coming out party, what a free agent pick up that turned out to be! Also Pavelski is giving me reason to keep him, same with Elliott, throw Holtby's play in there as a rookie goalie and I'm very excited about my team going forward!

End of Season League Discussion:

Rule additions/subtractions and amendments:
1. 2 weeks finals
2. Stashing rookie players...(Ex: 1 stash maximum, drafted in the first 3 rounds of the draft)
3. Disallowing pickups of NA players.
4. Possible change of waiver rules? Further discussions if anyone wishes to continue to pursue this change.
5. Expansion discussion

Reminders for next season:
1. Addition of Util spot
2. Limit of 3 add/drops per week set by Yahoo! Spot starts, injury adds rules eliminated.
3. Draft picks will be used in the Yahoo! system

I'd like as much input as possible, and we will have a vote asap on the rule changes so we can have a relaxing offseason.

Also if you go to 2 week playoff, make sure to not include the final week of the real nhl season when there is mass healthy scratching

Which stat categories? SHP? Blk? Goalie Losses?

If we exclude the very last week of the NHL season....plus 2 week final...it'll eliminate at least 2 weeks of regular season play. Will that be a significant removal? The trade deadline would then be a lot closer to the our fantasy league playoffs, which may help the market...hard to tell.

other league is a money league so we've axed the last week of the regular season because nobody wants to lose $$ on a coaches decision to sit... crosby or lundqvist or whoever.

Our playoffs are 3 weeks. works fine.

Face offs won, blocks, removal of shutouts. Or face off % though FOW seems like a better stat.

I'm all for those stat category changes, but they're definitely strategic impact changes (wait a year). I also like takeaways as a possibility. Also, I think I'd prefer face off percentage because we added the stupid utility slot, lol. I don't like the idea of feeling obligated to use centers in my utility spot in order to max out face off opportunities.

fow spreads the stat out to more players. The better % players are still the best ones to have (bergeron, crosby, spezza, et al) but you can compensate not having one of half a dozen aces by choosing to play more centers overall

E.G. team A has crosby, bergeron, spezza as well as matt duchene. They annihilate their matchup in FOW every week

team b knows they wont out score team A but has a good shot at goalie stats and blocks, they use their utility spot and center/wingers to take a run at FOW by committee instead of playing pure wingers to take a stab at G.

The following week, team b plays his wingers over his centers because the new team A isnt a good offensively.

TL;DR: the teams with good centers/high % wont need to play as many centers are possible cause they already win way more draws than other players, but keeping it as FOW makes it a realistic option that someone could beat you in it.

I feel like so many players in our pool are just so useless right now. Adding a couple "defensive" stats adds a lot more strategy and makes the waiver wire deeper for everyone.

This is exactly why I prefer face-off win % though. I feel like if someone has all those top face-off guys, they deserve to win. Centers are just as capable by scoring as wingers, so it makes playing a center at utility an inherent advantage. Beating another team by playing more centers is just like beating another team by having more GP to me, I don't like it.

Hits, as badly as they're tracked in real life, IMO have less implications than FO% or FOW given the lack of positional bias (all skaters get hits, including defensemen). There's also more of them tracker per week (by a significant margin) than takeaways which decreases the luck factor somewhat.
