Vesey is screwing up 5 plays a game. The good news is that he's getting those 5 noticeable plays. I don't play hockey so I can't tell what's wrong with his passing or stick handling.

Whatever it is, if he sorts it out, he can be real effective bottom sixer.

Where has he been less than advertised? Maybe to people who were relatively uninformed about what to expect.

I mean I don't know about you but this team did have issues scoring over stretches. Let's not forget that through the beginning of last season, they were scoring in absolute droves, and that was unsustainable. We need a guy like 22. Do I wish he was better at shot sup and overall defense? Yes, but I'm more than happy with what he already brings to this team.

It's not just about the game changing. What I wrote is particularly about people who want something to complain about for the sake of complaining/seeming edgy for no reason.

I'm more than happy with having a Shattenkirk player-type. I understand the conceptual value of it. #22 has brought Kostka-esque levels of play in his own zone this year though, and in my opinion has been a net negative so far.

Well yeah it's a net negative if you think he's been as bad as Kostka. That's a little much...

I think thats more of a team thing then a Shattenkirk thing. NYR has not exactly played up to standard. How hard do you imagine it is for a new player to a team to play up to his best when the team is playing well below standar?

I thought we were bad but geez. I feel bad for them. Hopefully they turn it around I've always liked the Yotes.

It was a fun game - a great push by Arizona in the third, but Pavelec was very good in this game. He was just out of position one time on that pk goal. :)

The problem is, I do remember. The Rangers were 4th in the league in GS just last year. Why did they have so little trouble scoring goals without all of those puck movers?

Listen, I agree that the game has changed. There's little use for slow, shot blocking types anymore. But Shattenkirk came advertised as somewhat of a liability in his zone and he's been worse than advertised. For a guy that apparently cares as much as he does, he sure seems to be "careless" and lacking in effort to me.

Rockstar post right there..

Shattenkirk's play in the defensive zone isn't as strong as the class of stay-at-home defenders.

His net effect on the ice though generates more positives, offense, breakout opportunities and less time in the defensive zone squandering around.

Staal is "solid" in the defensive zone but he's in there more often than anyone and can't move the puck out of the zone to save his life.

If you focus so much on the individual plays in the defensive zone by Shattenkirk, it will look bad like if you're staring at the manure trench behind the flower bed.

Zoom out and take a gander at the overall impact he brings.

I look at the overall picture as a whole and I don't play favorites.
That's what us eye test people do ;)

I mean, he hasn't given the puck directly to the opposing team for a tap-in yet, but he has given the puck away in bad spots multiple times (one led to the first goal tonight) in addition to getting walked like McIlrath/Tarasenko several times as well.

I wanted the player. I don't think the Shattenkirk we've gotten so far is the advertised one.
