So.... It might be interesting to watch this year to see if we have 'goaltending issues' again .. since we will be breaking in a full time Bahl and Luke, we will see more of Brendan Smith and now Miller and possibly Nemec.

Also, I think part of Marino's maturation was Graves and his stability.
No more Severson should cancel it out though!:sarcasm:

If NJ falters they can always trade for a goalie from a bottom feeding team that doesn’t need a win now goalie. Maybe the Sharks have a goalie they’d be willing to move that has tremendous athleticism and skills and just needs work on his mental game and to overcome years of injuries? Sounds like a perfect fit. Even better if he’s an unlicensed infectious disease physician.

How the hell are you still doing the “goaltending skill doesn’t exist” thing?

Sure. Both can torpedo a season. Both can be true. Your posts on this come across aggressively. I’m not disagreeing with you.
Sorry man, never intend to be aggressive with you. You're absolutely right on this case, both are absolutely true.

I'm so happy we have a great team and an intriguing season to look forward to

That was really my main point. Just oook how far they’ve come. Just two years ago they selected second overall. That’s nuts.

Never said 'goaltending skill doesn't exist'. It was pretty much the reason why the isles were in the playoffs and why the Rags had success.

But Adin Hill won the Stanley Cup and there were plenty of examples of teams making average goaltending look good.

Like others have said: it works both ways. You need both good goaltending to win and good defense to win. Our team had neither. Now we have both.

Ps... not that this means anything, but I put my money where my mouth is where goaltending is concerned. I don't draft goalies in fantasy leagues and won it all last year with Brossoit, Skinner and Gustavsson and the year before with Swayman and other guys who were previously nobodies bc it's impossible to handicap and project goalie performance outside of the top five guys and you're better off looking for situations than believing in a Demko or a Markstrom or Grubauer.

I expect some boneheaded roster decision on opening night purely to piss us off. Like benching Siegenthaler for Smith, or experimenting with Luke at forward, or benching Holtz and putting Tierney on the 2nd line. Some random stupid shit like that which makes absolutely no sense.

Everything seems too good to be true, surely Lindy will do SOME unnecessary tinkering.

The media made a pretty big point of of reporting on the “intensity” of training camp and preseason. And you can tell from the interviews that everyone on the roster knows they’re a team to beat and no one’s gonna go easy on them.

But if there’s one thing i feel like i know about Ruff, it’s that he never has the team prepared.

So while the “vibes” have me feeling like we’re in for a hot start that hopefully doesn’t fall to pieces in a month, in my heart i know that the Devils are gonna look like shit for 2 weeks before they start clicking. :sarcasm:

How many years have you guys been watching hockey and following the team? Pretty much everyone should know by now that every coach will make some amount of lineup or line combo decisions that goes against the most obvious one fans want to see.

I'm sort of the opposite...I have ESPN+ but I don't have access to MSG right now and I really don't want to pay for just MSG.

Tomorrow is the day where Devils Hockey FINALLY returns!

(to those who don't have ESPN+, I feel for you but there are ways to watch it elsewhere...and many of you already are aware of that. And I'll leave it at that)

Can't wait to see everyone on the ice and not half of everyone with the other half being AHL players.

Hope the Devils come out swinging and send Detroit packing.

Over/Under time for when we hear this tomorrow Friday night? :D

Probably not as many times as we hear “Hard working team” in regards to Arizona.

Anybody who says that should be banned from commentating for at least a week without pay, as well as the next game we play Arizona later in the year.

Get f***ed with that shit.

It has become part of the hockey jargon.

To be fair, there will be teams that will massively outperform and underperform. Habs just showed the Leafs that things can change fast. Maybe the hard work finally pays off...

Haula being out right before the season opener is bad. He would want to play the opener even with broken legs and feet, so even if he plays it doesn't mean there isn't a real problem/injury.
