U: that was awful hockey but I have to comment on Benoit and Mez.....that is about the worst defensive pairing I have witnessed in my 40 plus years of watching hockey.

Those two were an embarrassment.

Bad: Didn't like Stafford tonight.

Ugly: Mez, Benoit

The only offensive line I noticed all night was the Girgensens line. They need to split those players up to make the other lines effective, as well as give those players someone who can actually make a move on their line.

Reinhart was scared and small. Didn't look awful though. Needs different linemates to be effective.

Our defensive pairings ensure we will place last. Outside of Myers, nobody can carry the puck into the zone and keep possession. It's dump and don't recover every time, and that doesn't win games. I don't have a lot of faith in our coaches changing this up, they didn't last year either.

Myers was good, Weber played well. So did Enroth.

Reinhart was alright. Thought he looked a bit nervous and wasn't as calm on a few plays he usually gets right all the time. I thought the rest of the team was ****. Especially Foligno,Stafford,Mez,Benoit and Hodgson. Really meh.

Love Z's goal too.

Also, Hodgson-Reinhart-Gionta can't happen. It just can't. It doesn't work. Swap Girgensons with Reinhart. Let Sam play with the big bodies, giving him space to get comfortable. Z and CoHo have shown chemistry and along with Gionta they can be a solid trio.

Not alot to be excited about, thought they would put up a better fight to be honest.

G:
-Enroth gave them a chance
-Girgs-Stewart is a good combo
-I can see Gorges/Myers being a really strong pair once they get used to each other
-Reinhart still gets knocked over easy enough, but you can totally see the smarts he has, real nice feed to Cody in the 3rd

B:
-Benoit/Meszaros stunk it up
-Hodgson/Gionta stunk it up
-Special teams stunk it up

U:
-This whole season can go here, I was already losing interest in the 3rd period

G:
Loved Myers flying down the ice gaining the zone and making things happen.
Zemgus with a beauty.
Gorges seems like a good fit.

B:
Giving up 40 shots to a patchwork CBJ team.
Too many PK's to get any momentum.
Benoit/Meszaros could be our secret 'tank' weapon?

U:
Losing a home opener.

G... No one got hurt. I thought Reinhart played well for his first regular season game. He didn't hurt his line.

B... Benoit

Will fix everything
Good:

Girgensons
Myers
Enroth kept Sabres in it
Hodgson-Reinhart-Gionta produced some of the teams best chances

Bad:

A pretty much text book game from last year:

Get outshot badly
GWG scored with Sabres d-man doing something stupid
Unable to produce a consistent forecheck

Ugly:

Lots of avoidable penalties early
Moulson-Ennis-Stafford were invisible in the third
Looks like coaching is about the same as last year

Overall, it's early, but this was probably our most winnable game of the first 4

Saturday is Hawks home opener
Monday is the ducks
Tuesday is our 3rd game in 4th nights....on the road.

Maybe we get our 1st win next friday?

Good
Columbus, they are a solid team without any real big time superstars. Good hard workers
Girgensons line
I now have Game Center and am watching lots of other teams so i will be better informed this year, as well as I will be looking to watch more prospects games
Reinhart defensively and a few nice looks
Mitchell's hustle
Posts were definitely favoring Blue and Gold
On pace for McEichel

Bad
Enroth was overall pretty solid and made some big saves but every time he got scored on he was in his own paint. He is 5ft 9 and must challenge shooters more and play further out.
Benoit at times
The penalty margin
Reinhart's strength
Our overall team speed
Team breakouts at times

Ugly
Nothing to alarming for game #1

G:
- Zemgus goal
- M-E-S had some chances
- Enroth was pretty good, though he had a lot of luck going for him
- Stewart was on the puck a lot, showed jump in his game
- Gorges-Myers played well, promise for a strong season from Myers
- Weber did pretty well

B:
- Gorges screening Enroth on goal 3 without anyone near the net
- Benoit-Meszaros
- Foligno-Girgensons did not look good together, especially early on. Foligno made a lot of poor passes.
- I feel pretty strongly the pieces on lines 2 and 3 should be juggled. Hodgson-Reinhart/Girgensons-Stewart
- Benoit and Ennis on the PK do not float my boat
- Ristolainen kept off the ice too much, in part due to being on the PK

U:
- This was only game 1 of 82. The team got dominated in possession and shots by a playoff bubble team that's missing three key forwards.

Myers made a number of poor decisions and a few gaffes but I suppose he skates well

G:
-Myers was all over the ice, doing things, winning his battles
-Zemgod goal
-MES had some nice shifts (Ennis especially made some nice plays)
-Weber had a decent night. Liked that he didn't hesitate to jump in to defend the new kid.

B:
-Foligno's many misguided attempts at passing
-Hodgson/Reinhart/Gionta just didn't work. Nothing really clicking there.

U:
-Benoit Meszaros

Just wait until Enroth goes through a cold spell. This team could average 5 goals against a game during some stretches.

1st half of the season Afinogennis is back.

Stewart and girgensons could have used a line mate tonight. And even then outside of his goal Girgensons didn't look great.

Benoit Meszaros spent most of the night making snow angels for some reason.

Team just looked bad. Completing a pass was a huge accomplishment. I don't know how people can say they didn't look bad. Columbus was able to just walk in on goal dozens of times tonight. Columbus should have scored 6 tonight but they hit the post or just missed on wide open shots.

Easy to see he get's the mental game, but he looks like a lost little brother out there for the most part. Too much perimeter play in his game and is overmatched from a physical perspective.

Yeah, he's overmatched physically....but I thought he showed more willingness to be physical.

The thing I saw that I'd like him to stop is that when he has the puck in the defensive or neutral zones, he seemed a little too willing to pass the puck immediately. Take a couple strides and let things develop....
