It's almost certainly going to happen during the upcoming roadtrip. We won't be able to see it in person. :(

Looks like the ceremony will take place against Cory Schneider and the Devils on January 15th.

That kinda sucks :(

Hopefully he goes HAM against the Yotes and Flames at home

Team got owned thru much of the third but overall looked again pretty good. See the prospects of a tank job and the subsequent high draft hopes fading but team is deserving of some praise for recent efforts. But damn I hope we don't become buyers at the trade deadline.

The Good

Baertschi - lots of energy throughout the game and had multiple chances. Has helped solidify the PP and actually make it good. Took WD long enough to get something established but looks like he finally has. Appears Baertschi may start fulfilling all the promise he showed in Junior. Showing the virtue of patience.

Horvat - another effective effort and agree he needs more ice time

Stecher - real glue on the PP and makes consistent smart moves with the puck. Makes everyone around him better

Sbisa - faded a bit in the third but played with authority in much of the game. Again maybe not the expansion fodder some have seen. Need to get Biega up to qualification level. At this point Sbisa is a solid NHL player

Sutter - did a lot of grunt work and anchored his line.

Sedins - best players in the game. Question is can they sustain this level over the long haul.

The Not So Good

Megna - waste of the Sedins efforts. Too much of a light weigth and can't protect the puck or get to the net. Maybe end this experiment

Others

Rodin - liked the speed he showed. Looked faster than in the pre-season. Don't know why they don't try him with the Sedins. Worth a look

Gaunce - is getting better. Still having trouble moving the puck when at high speed and should have looked back to Stecher on the third period two on one. However, skating better and is getting on the body. Overall 4th line is playing fairly well although little chance of getting any goals out of them. Getting benched for a stretch seems to have given Gaunce bit more life.

Miller - thought he was more lucky than good and seemed out of position on some plays. Avs had totally open nets but shanked most of their shots in close.

Granlund showed some unexpected bursts of speed

Canucks were good in the circle - especially Sutter and Chaput

Hutton has struggled this year, but I think he'll turn it around in the second half like Bo did last year. The sophomore slump gets everyone not named McDavid.

We aren't talking about Hutton, gotta give him credit he played pretty damn decent tonight.

What a difference for Hutton playing with Tryamkin instead of Gudbranson....Tryamkin has a remarkable ability to bring the cycle to a grinding halt.....Hutton not spending nearly as much time just chasing the puck....now he can handle and pass the puck without the same forechecking pressure.

Yes - deserves mention. Getting his game time down has helped. Played quicker and moved the puck faster and better.

Fundamental problems in down low coverage not so apparent when you can avoid bad match ups and Hutton has more jump in his game.

Good summary.

They'll only protect 3 D. If Sbisa is protected then Gudbranson would not be. Biega's status only becomes relevant if one of Edler, Tanev, Gudbrason or Sbisa are traded.

There's a chance he's scoreless against Calgary.

Hutton is really playing well but man Tryamkin is solid. Sky's the limit IMO for him he's not just some big guy he thinks the game well. Him or Hutton better not come out of the lineup for Gusbranson

Gudbranson really doesn't have a place in this lineup. He'd be better suited on a team like Vegas...it's a shame because he's a good guy and we gave up a lot to get him but he's not a fit. Doesn't bring more physicality than Tryamkin, isn't even close to Stecher offensively, doesn't have Hutton's mobility and makes giveaways that would make Sbisa proud.

And he's in for a big pay raise to boot. He's not worth more than $3 million a year but someone is bound to pay him over $4 million per.

Maybe?

He has 0 points in his last 11 games (most of which have been with the twins and 2nd unit PP), has dragged their CF% through the mud (even more than Sutter did), and most of the time he's changed before them, the Sedins have played better without him.

It should've been maybe like 6 games ago. It's into WTF is going on territory now ...

My pick would be Edler. Don't see him improving and his cap hit might start looking worse than Sbisa's. Still the Sbisa cap hit is a factor that can't be ignored.

Wouldn't mind moving Gudbranson but his stock has to be little low at the minute. But, no doubt, team has looked better without him and I believe that Sbisa has outplayed him at a similar cap hit.

You would rather give up Edler for free rather than get whatever you can for Gudbranson? :amazed:

That's ignoring the near impossibility that Edler's contract is ever worse than Sbisa's. Edler could retire tomorrow and the NHL could saddle the Canucks with his cap hit - and it would still be a better contract than Sbisa. A few so-so games doesn't suddenly change one of the worst contracts in the league.

I think he meant he'd pick edler being moved.

Barring any injuries I'll bet Tryamkin sits when gudbranson returns. The traded a lot for him so he will get lots of rope.

Someone will be injured when Gudbranson is ready to return...one of those virtual certainties... if not, then we'll be locked into a playoff spot.

Win-win.

Ps.. can't believe Horvat is tied with Horvat in the poll... It should be Horvat in a romp.

Horvat on pace for a 55PTS season and Bae on pace for 50PTS.

Bae had 2 points in his first 13 games...and now has 20 points in the last 23 games...:amazed:

Sbisa has been okay but he hasn't been anything special. He's been a solid #6. Only reason Vegas would take him is if they are afraid they won't make the cap floor. Even then it's iffy. If I were them I'd take Rodin.

There are so many teams out there with bad contracts. If McPhee was smart, he'd pull a Chayka and trade his cap space for assets.

For example: They can easily get a Sbisa like d-man who is still a solid 3rd pairing guy in Stoner and force Anaheim to give up a pick in the process. The Ducks aren't in any cap trouble, but they are right up against the cap and over their internal budget. Clearing Stoner's 3.25M would be worth a decent pick to them.

So why exactly claim Sbisa when they can have one of Rodin/Gaunce/Granlund instead and not use up much cap space in order to facilitate more deals like say Stoner + a 2nd for a 5th.

Yes, he needs 38 more games to be eligible. There's 43 games left in the schedule. They'd need to sit him for 6 if they don't want him exposed.

maybe that is why they are sitting him still? use this as an opportunity to get him to 100% health

Everyone that is not protected is exposed unless they are exempt. Among the players left unprotected there must be at least 2 forwards and one d-man with 40 NHL games over the season or 70 NHL games over 2 seasons.

Rodin is exposed unless they protect him but he won't be among the two forwards that meet the minimum game requirements.
