If you're speculating that 'things are bad in buffalo' you must not watch much hockey... Things have been horrible in Buffalo to say the least. Sabres apparently are interested in Boyle as a stop gap #2 or #3C to buy Mitts more development time.

I watch plenty of hockey, including all the years when Boyle was a Ranger. He isn't a 2C, stopgap or otherwise. If Buffalo was in the middle of a rebuild, like the Rangers are, it could make sense, but Buffalo is looking to actually compete this year. They aren't doing that with Boyle as the 2C.
