Looking at other posts, Gilmour should be there since they put all players in their prime, but this list is very accurate for their impact with the Habs.

But Gilmour was not in his prime with Montréal. If we go by name power, then I can add guys like gonchar, Lang, and Schneider too.

Thats what i said, look at some lineups.. ottawa with Hasek, Lindros with the Leafs.

Habs lineup is fairly weak compare to other teams

I think the defense and goaltending looks pretty good. If I were to make the lineup based on name power, rather than their impact on the club, then let's go with this:

Pacioretty - Gilmour - Kovalev
Cammalleri - Koivu - Radulov
Tanguay - Linden - Gallagher
Cole - Lang - Ryder

Markov - Weber
Schneider - Gonchar
Hamrlik - Subban

Price
Theodore

Was this exercise meant to be limited to the players when they played for the team or the prime of the player, regardless of his level of play on said team. Seems like that distinction matters a lot.

Ingila on the Pens for example.

when they played for the team.

Yeah it should be limited to peak years starting in 2000 AND with that team.

I'm sure handedness with the D is way off, but too much work. Also I tried to go with how they performed while Kings.

Possibly the best offense if basing it off peaks.
Didnt Lindros sit out the 2000 season? Then went to the Rangers

You wouldn’t want peak Linden? Peak salo?
Salo probably. I was thinking who he would displace. Probably Mitchell. Linden felt weird to include for some reason, almost top far removed from his prime, but sub Eriksson for sure.

Everyone at their peak? That changes everything.

Dallas Stars

Jamie Benn - Eric Lindros - Jaromir Jagr
Jason Spezza - Mike Modano - Brett Hull
Ray Whitney - Joe Nieuwendyk - Pierre Turgeon
Jere Lehtinen -Tyler Seguin- Jason Arnott

Extras: Guy Carbonneau, Pat Verbeek, Bill Guerin, Claude Lemieux, Brad Richards

Sergei Zubov - Sergei Gonchar
Derian Hatcher - John Klingberg
Teppo Numminen - Miro Heiskanen :)

Ed Belfour
Tim Thomas

Now if we change it to just how good they were in Dallas that changes everything. You would remove about half those names and add Morrow, Ribeiro, Eriksson, Richards, Turco, Bishop, Sydor, Radulov and others.

Just going by the way they played for us...aka no Selanne, Kariya, or Smyth:

Tanguay - Sakic - Duchene
Drury - Forsberg - Hejduk
Landy - MacK - Rantanen
ROR - Stastny - Deadmarsh

Bourque - Blake
Footer - Barrie
Liles - Johnson
( Makar* )

Roy
2014 - Varlamov
Grubauer if I can't just pick a single season of Varly and would have to average out his entire tenure.

Really struggled with the final forward spots as guys like Svatos, Reinprecht, Vrbata, Brunette, Kadri, etc., all have solid cases to claim spots alongside Staz & ROR on that 4th line...and that's without getting into any bottom 6 specialists like Yelle. Went with Deader more to give that forward core some more physicality than anything else.

*Cale hasn't quite topped EJ's best yet, but that might not be true for much longer; as he's not exactly far off and he will do so eventually.

Similarly, Byram (and Girard) could well surpass JML on the left, but that's much less of a sure thing right now.

Feels wrong not to have streit in there somewhere, but he split time between defense and forward, and I didn't know how to define him. He was a big part of the potent powerplay in the kovalev-markov era.

I like that defense a lot. Hamrlik was underrated in his Montreal years: a solid flying-under-the-radar #2 defenseman.

I would find a spot for Steve Bégin on the 4th line; at his best, he was a magnificient energy player and crowd favorite. What use is Mike Ribeiro on a 4th line anyway?

Iginla belongs nowhere near our team based on how he played for us, and if you're talking about peak Iggy he should be much higher than that...and if you're doing it that way Selanne & Kariya have to be on the team over two of Tanguay / Drury / Hejduk / Stastny.

Leaving out Atlanta since I don't know much about them:

Ehlers - Scheifele - Wheeler
Ladd - Little - Laine
Connor - Stastny - Frolik
Kane - Hayes - Perreault

Enstrom - Byfuglien
Morrissey - Trouba
Myers - Bogosian

It's a "dream team", so I don't have a role player like begin on there for the same reason you wouldn't find that type of guy on a 4th line all star team.

Ribeiro had a pretty good career, albeit, most of his success occurred after he left Montreal.
